Intermittent idle issue after timing belt change
This is on a B20. Changed the timing belt, water pump and tensioner. I do not believe timing is off. With white mark on crank pulley lined up you can drop a punch through the cam caps into the cams. + I did not move the cams or crank really during the change.
Car starts up cold and seems to idles fine. Every once in a while it could maybe idle a little rough......maybe just low. After I have been driving it for a while if I turn the car off and say go into a store for a while some times when I come back out and start the car up it fires up but idles low for a couple seconds then goes to a normal idle. Almost like idle is to low or its missing??
If I turn the car off and re start it, it does not do it. It will start up and idle just fine.
I cleaned the engine bay right after the belt change but I have driven it about 600 miles since then so nothing is damp. I have also pulled all electrical plugs apart and blown them out with compressed air. Installed new spark plugs. Removed throttle body and cleaned it along with IACV. Cleaned grounds. Pulled dist. cap to check for moisture.
Any ideas as to what this could be would help alot! It did not do this before the belt change and engine bay cleaning

I have had a timing light on it and it seems to be just fine. Jumpered the connector and set timing.
Could needing a valve adjustment cause this problem? They are kind of noisy. Car has 260K and I have put 60K of those on my self with no adjustment so who knows when it was done last.
Its just weird that it only idles low for a couple seconds after its warm........sometimes

is this a b20z? or b20b?
do the valve lash adjustment regardless. b20's are apparently notorious for burning exhaust valves for that reason.
it sounds a bit synonymous with a collapsed/collapsing vac line. since it mostly occurs warm. have a good close look and feel at all your vac lines and see if you can find any that look like they're collapsing. not a guarantee, but a possibility.
check for leaks as well with the quick start

I will check vac lines tomorrow and see how it goes. I have to buy or make a tool to adjust the valves.
I believe it is a B20b, the car is a 98 CR-V. Posted in here because I'm sure there is a lot more traffic than in the CRV section lol

cleaned out the engine bay with degreaser and a hose i'll bet.
Try taking off the disty cap and getting the water out of there it should fix the problem.
if not check all the sparkplug tubs for water

Nice! I love mine this is the first problem I have had with it. Water pump decided to die so I changed every thing out. Sucks when you try to fix it and it runs worse afterward lol
I have put about 600 miles on it since the degrease lol Have removed dizzy cap and its dry in there I have also replaced the plugs and had the valve cover off to double check timing since then.
Water down in the plug holes is first thing I thought about haha
