Hey guys, so my beater started leaking gas from the drain/bottom of the charcol canister after I filled the tank up to the top last night. Only had the car on the road for two weeks so I've only filled it up to about half, and last night when I filled it to the top for the first time it started pissing out of the bottom of the charcol casister BUT when I took off the gas cap, it stopped leaking.
So my question now is, since the charcol canister got saturated with fuel, will I have to replace it to do an emissions test?
EDIT: Now the car is bogging and cutting in and out.

bc with the cap on it seals in the pressure forcing out the gas, when its off the pressure is released so it doesnt force it out your canister

Should I keep the cap off untill I use up some of the fuel?
Also, could anything else be the cause of the fuel coming out the canister?

That's wierd, the canister is just for fuel vapors, to keep pressure from building up in the tank, actaul gas should no be coming out of there. Remove the charcoal canister and see if the gas pours out of the hose from the tank (the one that connected to the canister)

^ Well yeah, if you overfilled or 'top off' the tank you run the risk of having the evap system suck the fuel and not vapours.

Charcoal canister issue should set off the CEL and yes that will be an issue at emissions. How is it leaking from the bottom? Is it cracked or is there some sort of overflow drain or something (that I never saw)?
Mine was cracked on the bottom, no idea how, bought the car like that. It literally had a hole like an inch and half in diameter. It leaked some sort of grease like substance onto whatever was below it, like my axle. Anyhow, I just replaced mine with another OEM one that some guy was parting out. Try to locate one locally or on CL. They are pretty expensive from dealer.. IIRC, around $150+. Hope that helps!

Its leaking out of the bottom, which leads to a fresh air intake for the canister.
Now I have an even bigger problem, the car started bogging and cutting in and out quite bad.

I've heard of some people removing it completely and the car should run fine still. I def suggest just replacing it. Sounds possible you might have other issues?
The fuel is probably be sucked into the intake from the canister, cuasing it to bog. Your best bet is to just remove the canister, but then you will not pass visual inspection.
if the charcol get wet it breaks down and the motor can suck it into the intake and thats never good also the car should have a VENTED gas cap if i remember use of a NON-VENTED cap is the cuase of this problem.

Hose are connected correctly, the car ran fine for past two weeks I've owned it. The first time I filled up the tank to the top this happened.

Apparently there's a two-way check valve ontop of the tank that controls fluid flow, anyone have a part number or a diagram for this?
yes, there should be a liquid/vapor separator. this keeps liquid fuel from entering the canister.
have you checked the codes? a pressure/vacuum related issue will set a code
check those first and report back

part number is 17372-SR3-010 found it at

typically, the evap system only throws a code if there is a leak. i don't think a bad 2 way valve will throw one.
it is, however, the only way that liquid fuel could enter the canister.
i doubt there are 2 issues. if you suspect bad gas, disconnect the purge valve, see if the bogging goes away. if it does, it's because the purge valve is allowing raw fuel into the intake. which it's going to do if there is raw fuel in the canister. which there never should be.
so basically, both problems are likely due to an issue with the 2 way valve

The bogging randomly stopped, the car doesn't leak gas and drives amazing again.
Looks like it's that two-way check valve that's to blame, so can either A replace it, or B not fill up to a full tank, lolol.

technically, it's a 2 way valve. not a check valve
be aware though that because the canister was filled with liquid, some of the pellets may have been expelled and could clog up the vent tubes. just watch out for that

Yeah I've pulled off vacuum lines to see if any pellets/deposits have plugged anything and it all looks ok. Going to replace the canister with another unit tomorrow.
