Default 98 GSR Engine help needed PLS Help

Hi guys,

So i bought a 98GSR and 3 months later Ive got Burnt Rings. Im Not exactly ready to spend another $1700 on a GSR swap so before I go with an LS to keep me rolling i did some searching for a block. I found a block from a 95 GSR at a good price and im wondering if this would be an easy swap? I dont know if the obd difference is going to cause me any hurdles and if so what they are.

can someone please tell me what would be involved in taking my 98 GSR block out and Replacing with a 95 GSR block? Any extra steps as a result of the year difference? what if any parts would i want to use from my old motor?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

What all comes with the block? If you are going to swap blocks, you'll need to pull the head and the block out and put the new one in. If you are already doing that, you should consider getting new rings if the pistons are in okay shape. Rings are less than 100 and you can have the walls of the block honed at the same time when it is out. Might save you cash.

the new block or 95 gsr block is complete, I'm basically looking to swap block for block as long as that's possible with the years/obd difference. I will deff replace the rings while i have it apart that can only save me money in the long run.

Is there any difference between a 1995 GSR block and a 1998 GSR Block?
Is my 98 head going to bolt right up to the 95 block?
Will I run my current 98 GSR ecu?
What timing belt and/or other tune up parts would I use 95 or 98?

You shouldn't have any problems with swapping them over. But someone correct me if I'm wrong, but they both have knock sensors right?

Yea it's simple to swap over. Or just buy a new one, or bypass it.

Pull it and inspect it. Why do you want to swap over another "used" item when you can just rebuild it? Unless, you just don't have the time and money and you're looking for the quickest and cheapest way out? Honest sellers are a rare breed unfortunately.
