Civic wagon starting problem
My friend has a 89 or 90 Civic wagon that he wrecked about a year ago. It just damaged the driver front corner. It's completely stocked with the D15b2 five speed. He put in a new main relay Saturday when I went over to check it out. I can physically push his clutch switch in and turn the key and nothing happens. The starter wont spin. So this is all I checked out Saturday, new main relay, clutch switch is good, fuel pump primes, all grounds have good contact, the mechanical timing is on point, the ignition timing hasnt been touched, new battery, all fuses seem to be fine, ignition switch doesnt seem bad (but I'm not ruling that out quite yet), so I took a wire straight to the starter and it sounded as if it spun but didnt engage to hit the flywheel. So I took it off to see if it did engage......
Sorry my phone doesnt like me typing too much at one time.......so I took the starter off to see if it engages but it just did nothing. So I told him to take it to Advance to put it on a machine. I checked his distributor internals and the rotor, cap, and spark plug wires are almost brand new. When I took the wire to the starter and hit it I could hear fuel priming? or something was turning on when I would touch the starter and stop when I stopped the connection. I only looked at it for a little while on Saturday and might go back at it next Saturday but I just wanted to see if anyone else can give me some more pointers. He's gonna let me know about the starter whenever he takes it this week. If you need any other addition info just ask and I'll hopefully have the answer.
I'm gonna tell him to get a new fuel filter and I may have to drop the gas tank and drain it, but I still cant figure out why nothing happens when you turn the key.......anyone got any ideas?
