Default Shaved Antenae

I had the dreaded Integra water in the trunk so I replaced the taillight gaskets.
It helped but I still had a leak so I figured it was coming from the Chinese antennae I installed when a punk broke my OEM.

When I removed the antenae I noticed it was badly rusted and the rubber was brittle so I'm pretty sure it wasn't helping in the rain. It was a pain in the butt to remove, I slightly bent the sheet metal (the metal on these cars are extremely thin).

To shave the hole it is quite easy.

1)Use a Bondo kit that comes with sticky mesh and the two part compound
2)Apply the mesh from below the hole.
3)Apply bondo from below hole first to make sure the mesh stays put
4)Apply thin coats of bondo from the top of the hole
5)Sand the bondo with coarse to 400 or 600 fine grit paper
6)Apply your spray bomb or if so desire get a professional paint job
(I mask an area bigger than desired then use a piece of paper to guide the overspray)
7)Wait a few days then buff with polishing compound.

I secured the antennae behind the side plastic trunk molding with zip ties; great reception.

Leaks are gone, but just in case, I leave nothing on the trunk floor. Having a rag soaked in musty water for weeks on end provide some bad nasal diarrhea memories.

enjoy
Karl

... that is such a fail.

just sayin bro.. atleast fiberglass it from the bottom then bondo it..

u do know bondo holds water right and ur gonna get nothing but rust and its not gonna hold in a while to come.

u shoulda just put the grommet plug in the hole and called it a day until u got it to a bodyshop for a 100$ professional fix

I'll report back in a year, never had a problem with such a repair in the past

I used the plastic spreader in the kit. It doesn't matter how it goes on, the sandpaper makes it smooth, i put too much hardener so it dried quick.

The paint job is DYI and looks DYI but what do you expect.

Second that on the fiber glass. You should paint the inside while you're at it to prevent moisture in the bondo

Actually it does matter. EVERYTHING MATTERS!!! i painted my car myself for my very first time and taught myself everything the only help i had was my friend tony bandalos giving me pointers along the way and the difference is night and day. the reason i say it matters is because there can be air bubbles in the filler even though you sanded is "smooth" im not bashing just trying to give some helpful criticism

its all about the prep work, it takes 2 seconds to paint something, u the prepwork is where u need the time..

i can see the circle where u put the bondo. (lol)

i can see the tape lines (if your okay with a square on the back of your car different color thats okay i guess )

the underside looks messy as hell and will start to deteriorate when the coldness comes in, your supposed to use fiberglass down there and not mesh/bondo.

the littlbit of bondo goes on top of the hole over the fiberglass, u didint need more then a little bit. you used way too much.

good first attempt though, as long as you learn from it.

you never EVER just straight bondo something lol.

You could have just put a small plastic plug in with silicone on it, it wouldn't leak and doesn't look sloppy.

i used the oem grommet plug. its made for the antenna delete. it inserts i nthe hole and seals it off its a little black plug, it actually looks nice too.

and is water resistant.

i take all antennas off the teg, they do not look right when they are up or in.

and they leak anyway causing rust from inside out on the quarter pannel.

ill post a pic

or you can use 82871-671-000 GROMMET (25MM) thats what i used. i believe its from a tsx or something but it doesnt matter because thats the part number. ive used it for 5 years not a single problem. id buy whichever is cheaper...this one is only like a couple bucks

I sealed the underside with silicone, so it won't leak and hasn't leaked in monsoon like rain we had. I sanded the underside of the bondo before I sealed it, I don't have pics but it looks much smoother than what you see.

I didn't know about the plug, does anyone have the PN for the Integra plug?
You don't have any issues with the silicone disbonding from the plug?

I have some pics post polishing compound, the paint looks pretty good now.

I do, it says it is for a TSX. If there is one for an Integra then I'd rather use that.
Make sense?
