Default 96 accord 2.2 vtech. tranny problem?

I have a 1996 accord 2.2 vtech coupe. So recently it stopped moving. I have seen a couple post about this problem but none with a sucsessful fix to this problem. So here it goes, and thanks in advace for taking a look at this.

There was a couple days where i would reverse out of my drive way and when i put it in drive it would take about a minute of reving the engine before it initally started to move. Two days later when i stopped at a light and then started to try to go and would be stuck at 20 mph with 5000 rpm. I parked it and when i tried to go again, it wouldnt go. I was able to reverse for a couple times and then the reverse cut out also.

There were no signs of burnt transmission fluid and both cv axles were connected just fine. Only problem was the transmission was a bit over filled.

Any ideas?

I will stick to this post untill this problem is fixed to aid anyone else with this problem.

i had the same car. automatic im assuming. see any metal shavings in the transmission fluid or odd sounds coming from the transmission itself? mine made a metal whine when it went out. eventually it would just rev in every gear except reverse which worked fine.

Yes it is an automatic.

I didnt hear any noise coming from it though and when i dropped the fluid i did notice a bunch of gunk on the drain bolt. But didnt see any metal as i recall.

I have already moved the tranny a week ago to attempt to fix this problem. But when i went to put the new one in that i got from the junk yard the bell housing cracked. I will continue to replace the transmission and keep you guys updated. Anyone know if there was a slight difference in the mounting between 95 accord sedan to the 96 accord lx coupe? And would i be fine just taking the bell housing off the original?

the transmissions should be interchangeable as long as neither is a v6. check the dowel pins on each side of the bellhousing. if these are bent or misshapen they will not fit into the slots on the tranny and the tranny will not sit flush. if your dowel pins are out of circle take some pliers and gently bend them back to a circular shape.
