Default jdm rear taillight conversiom

I just did it on my 2000 lx sedan and used a regular 1157 bulb and socket, now what I'm wondering is, since the bulb touches the inside of the taillight (unlile the actual brake light with an actual socket entrance), is there a posibilty that the bulb might melt the taillight because of the heat produced?

I would try and retro fit it to back it away a little bit. Or try and find a smaller bulb with the same base.

Either that or get leds since they use less power/watts = less heat generated?

Thats actually a really good idea. LEDs wont get hot enough at all to melt the plastic.

An incandescent 1157 bulb will melt the lens or housing if it's used in a brake light and is touching plastic. You can try LED's, but very few are available that will be bright enough to match the stock bulbs.

Well I already have about two weeks with the conversion and so far the lenses are still ok, I check them everyday just to make sure anyways, and I always touch the lenses after driving a while with the lights on to feel the heat of the lense, not hot at all.

My bulb fell out of the socket and melted the housing. Lenses might have a higher melting point since they're usually made of PMMA instead of polypropylene. I'd still keep my eye on it though.

^^^oo thats bad. Well yeah I check them pretty often, but I still kinda want to separate the bulb from the housing so they dont touch, the problem is I cant find something to separate them that will fit and stay pretty clean, I'm just picky like that. Thanks anyways
