Default 00 EM1 -- Rear brake sticking and cruise control problem

Car: 2000 EM1
Problem: started to hear squeaking noise from rear end of my car whenever I was moving. in reverse its alot louder. Im 99% sure its one of the rear pads not releasing fully BECAUSE this noise only starts once I brake for the first time then it stays there for the rest of the time IM driving. I also tried to put my car on cruise control but it would not engage. I kept trying and it worked real quick for about 2 seconds then went off as if I stepped on the brake.
Question: What can I do to fix this problem and what products do I need to do it?
Other info: Im in Canada and its cold as hell ATM. Snow is on the ground people!!

Sounds like a seized caliper. Do either of your rotors have noticeable wear? Are both pads on both sides of the car worn equally? If you have one rotor with more noticeable wear than the other, or if one side has chewed up/cracked/pitted pads, try replacing the caliper on that side. I had the same problem when I did a rear brake swap in my EJ6, and the rotor on the locked side turned rainbow colors near the hat after a short trip down the highway (terrible idea, by the way). If your rotor hats aren't rusted to ****, see if there's any discoloration.

Also check for a sticking or misadjusted parking brake mechanism.

On the clutch and brake pedals, check the cruise control switches and the rubber stoppers they press on.

it's always like this? does it get better after warming up? do you leave your e-brake on over night?

so today I went on a half hour drive and the noise was the same as yesterday but eventually it started to fade actually went away. my cruise control works fine now.

to answer some questions: my rear rotors and pads most likely are old and need to be replaced. I got the car a year ago and needed to replace the pads right away then a couple months later I noticed the brake pedal was vibrating when I braked so I replaced the rotors and all was good. I havent serviced the rear brakes yet so I guess I'll do that and clean the caliper while im back there.
