Default JIC wants your 5G Prelude!

I'd like to begin with stating that I have no affiliation with JIC/Ziel. However, in me and my friend's search for coilovers for her 5G, I contacted JIC USA (Ziel Motorsports) and found out that they are in need of a 5G Prelude to test fitment and valving on for their JIC FLT-A2 coilover. I've been trying to get my friend to do it, but she's extremely protective of her car and doesn't want them touching it. However, this opens up the opportunity for all you guys/gals! This is the info I got from JIC:

JIC FLT-A2 Coilover Features:
- Adjustable damper length (lower bracket - retains full stroke)
- Adjustable spring seat
- 15-way adjustable damping
- Aluminum and chromoly casing

What's needed from the volunteer:
- Preferably in socal or willing to make 2 trips down here w/o your car for the full day
- 1 full day for initial test fit and valving test
- Then, they'll send back the coilover to JIC Japan for alterations
- 1 full day for final test fit and a drive test

For this, you get the coilovers for 35% off retail ($1850) so your price would be $1200 installed. Please let me know if you would like to do this as I may be able to get a deal for my car and my friend's 5G also . Please email me at jainikke@yahoo.com if you're interested. You can contact JIC USA yourself or I can do so, but I'd like to stay involved since they hinted that they might help me out with the pricing if I can find them a volunteer. Thanks.

Wow, no one's interested in these coilovers that rival the likes of Tein RE, Zeal B6/S6, and A'pex N1 Type-V's? And none of those are even available for BB6's...but these are...or at least would be.

Maybe I'm just unaware, but I've never heard of JIC. Regardless, I'm in socal and would possibly be down to let them test on my car, depending on the situation specifics.

Still, if you let a company do R&D on your car, you usually get the parts for free, not discounted.

If I get to keep the coilovers for free, I'll do it!!! 35% off retail....I'm assuming that's pretty much their cost of the coilovers. Most companies would build several prototypes, and most of these prototypes become trash after the products become production items. So one set of coilovers free to the person who let them use the car isn't really asking for that much (if you compare to those who actually buy the car for test fitting prototypes).

How about this? I get to keep the coilovers, and I race in local and national auto-x'es with their company name on my car, and as my sponsor. Would that be a pretty good marketing tool? $1200 for advertising for at least a year is pretty cheap!!!

that's pretty ghey. test final fitment but for a 35% discount. come on a real company would either pay you flat out and give discount or give you the parts for free.

JIC is as real a company as it gets! They build British touring cars. They make Mugen look like APC.

I'd do it, but I don't have a 5g or $1200.

I agree.. not to mention you will lose to complete days where you have to drive out and let them monkey with your car... sorry but my time is money, and i am not missing out on two days worth of making money at work, so that they can make money in the long run after test fitting their product.. not to mention the 1200.00 bucks they would charge me for a test part that hasnt even gone into production.. just doesnt sound very attractive to me...

For those who aren't familiar with JIC, they're one of the top suspension makers in Japan. I've seen their dampers for civics/tegs in person and are very nice quality. As for the discount, I have no control over that. But, these are better than almost any of the coilovers currently available for the BB6. The only ones I know of available for the BB6 are Tein SS, Fightex FS, and Fightex N1. The Tein SS is nice, but it's heavy due to it's steel casing, can have corrosion issues on it's steel sleeves, uses a small piston twin-tube design that's more prone to oil cavitation, and sacrifices piston stroke for lowered height. The Fightex FS is similar to the Tein SS, but made of aluminum so it's lighter, but it still sacrifices stroke and has some of the other vices listed. The Fightex N1 is nice and has all the features the JIC does, but they cost a grip more (~$2400). Yes, this isn't a huge discount, but this isn't a huge market either. Take a look at what's available for the BB6 and you won't find much in this category. I'm glad that a well-known and proven company (in japan at least) is willing to make such a product for the BB6 and am a bit surprised it's not getting much more support. I don't see Zeal, Buddy Club, or even Tein making anything (except for Tein who doesn't plan on expanding it's product line for the BB6 anyways). Koni, Bilstein, Neuspeed, Progress, etc. don't make any full coilovers for the BB6 either. So, with the limited profit they would make off a BB6 damper, I'm not surprised they're not willing to discount more. I'd love it if they discounted more also. Heck, I might be able to get my friend to do it then. For those interested, email me. My friend and I would still like to be able to eventually get a set of these on her BB6 as it's in the same league as a $2400 Fightex N1 for about $1600 (probably the price one will be able to get it for when it's released). I don't know about everyone else, but I don't normally have the hookups to get 35% off most of the products I buy.

Like I said, I don't work for JIC, but I do like the fact that they're willing to put out a good product for the BB6. It's been a PITA finding options for parts for the BB6. Some are ok, but I like the options available for cars like DC's and EG/EK's. Their options run the gambit from entry level to full race, for almost all products. You can't say that for the BB6. As for the testing, like I said, I've been trying to get my friend to do it, but she's too protective of her car. I've known ppl to test fit for exhaust, headers (gee, Hitech comes to mind!...no complaints for test fitting and dyno testing there. Don't want them to drive around 30 minutes to test valving, but it's ok to rev to 8k rpm numerous times to do dyno testing...hmm...weird), suspension components, body pieces, etc. That's how products get made. I'd love it if they gave it for free, but it just aint happening. So, going with the "take what I can get" theme for the BB6, this is a better option than the Tein SS's that are currently available and those are the terms they told me. And yup, I'm trying to get a hookup on these too...sorry, but that's life.

if you are trying to get hook-up on those, then why dont you put in your car then....

Default jic

does make some nish ish; however, my tein ha's are good enough, especially considering that NEW they were HUNDREDS of dollars south of the JIC discounted 'prototype' cost. And, w/ out knowing specifics on spring rates, valving type, and shock assembly and construction AND most importantly rebuild options, I personally don't see it advantagous to allow anyone but me rag on my car to sell me something i already have. and, for the sake of credibility; in the past i had conversations w/ greddy regarding the use of my 5th gen for their turbo kit, and the kit would have been free, i resigned from the offer b/c 1. i didn't want to go turbo, and 2. i feel that strongly against leaving my car in the hands of strangers for any reason.

dflipmode: I don't have a BB6...my friend does.

bb6h22a: some info I know from JIC's DC2 and EG/EK dampers:

- 40mm front piston, 45mm rear piston (I believe Tein HA/SS use a 36mm piston)
- monotube design (twin-tube for Tein HA/SS). Monotube dampers allow for larger piston sizes for better feel of the road. they also have higher volume for more oil and thus, heat dissipation. Also, their design is much more cavitation-resistant than twintubes
- 15-way adjustable damping
- no specific valving and spring rates yet since that's why they're doing this for the US market (JDM JIC's are pretty stiff)
- Adjustable damper length (Tein HA/SS sacrifice stroke for lower height)
- rebuildable, servicable, and overhauled in the US (socal)

Regardless, they've found a test vehicle now. Just gonna wait for the dampers to release. They will easily outperform Tein HA/SS coilovers on the track...and I'm a big fan and proponent of adjustable length to retain stroke, which are currently only available on Fightex N1 coilovers at $2400.
