Default Engine code

What is the engine number for a Si motor for 88-91? Also, how can i tell if a tranny is from a Si? Thanks for your help.

its d16a6 if its usdm, to find it you can find the upper radiator hose inlet on the engine, and go down about 2-4 inches and to the left some, it should be a flat surface on the block, clean it off if you have to. It should be d16a6 if its a sohc and an Si

and is your tranny 5 spd? if it is then you've got an Si, for the most parrt. The std only had a 4 speed, as i understand it

thanks for the help. I have a 4 spd tranny but i know that the dx has a 5 spd tranny just like the si. Is there a difference between the 2? What about the tranny number? Is there a number?

yes there is a difference between the dx and si tranny. The final drive gear is higher in the dx for better gas mileage. The si tranny is better for acceleration though.

correct and both SI and DX trannys will have an L3 stamp near the engine code. the only way to tell the difference between the two without actually driving it is check the other stamp on the underside of the tranny where the axel connects.
