with the charcoal canister removed should i plug the throttle body nipple at the top of the TB? or leave it unplugged?

i noticed fuel smells too/ but i guess thats normal.

ive been through 20+ threads and most dont have pics anymore. and no one mentions plugging the top nipple where it connected to the throttle body.

any info let me know

The fuel smell is from fuel evaporating out of your tank and being wasted into the air. Why did you remove the canister?

It collects fuel that evaporates in your tank which:

1) saves you gas, because you aren't paying for gas that will just evaporate out of the tank
2) prevents fuel from being wasted and sent into the atmosphere

You might as well drill a hole in the top of your fuel tank.

You only lose a maximum of 2mpg, hardly. And it's more of a EVAP thing, not a fuel economy thing.

Not anywhere close to 2mpg. The mileage-loss from evaporation is so tiny as to be almost immeasurable.

Assuming a non-intrusive pre-OBD-II system...

The primary mechanical problem with removing the EVAP canister is that there'd be no pressure-vent for the fumes in the tank. The gas cap has a one-way valve in it, and pressures are relieved through the canister, with the resulting scrubbed-air vented to the atmosphere.

If the canister is removed, both the hole in the throttle-body AND the lines to the tank need to be plugged. Then you'd need to install a 2-way vented cap, which might be tough to find.

OP would be better advised to move the canister and its solenoid into a non-visible location, such as inside a fender.

you don't want to plug those lines. causes a pressure build up when it's warm out. you pull the gas cap and you'll have a lot of vapor escape.

you don't need the solenoid but should keep the canister. plum the canister straight to the TB nipple

as for the guy who said it looks better.....c'mon man, it's stuffed in the back of the engine bay.

Maybe a tank a year. But it's the combined effect of 1000 people that does the damage.

if you mean hacking the abs, devaluing the car, ,making it slower and less safe, then yes, i do generally make fun of those people

it's like showing off your retardedness and then being proud of it

my car is a 1995 obd1. i pluged the throttle body nipple and it seemed to idle better. im going to test drive this weekend if its nice out. what was the vent hooked to? the gas vent with a canaster?

cars setup is a jdm b18c, JRSC @10psi, fuel setup, type r lsd and b16 gears. plus more. with a omni 70mm throttle body, tuned

can i plug the gas tank vent? i thought i needed to let it vent.

plus my car doesnt have abs and i have a manual steering rack.

heres a dirty picture

Any modifaction you do depreciates the value of a car. And I'm not talking brake tucks and ****, and doing a wire tuck doesn't make the car less safe if you do it right. Removing the charcoal canister is just like removing ac and compressor, and power steering. Free's up a lot of space. If you don't like it, well, who cares.

Hi guys, hope you are all doing well. So here's my story, i am running a honda civic 2000 and its the love of my life well i somehow i had to change its throttle body and the one i got has this nipple for the carbon canister. My original throttle body didnt have any thing like this. My idle speed is perfect and my car is smooth and i have no issues CEL neither.

Now the question is that should i plug this nipple on the throttle body ? i mean vapors going into the environment i completely understand that but any impact on the performance ? should i plug it or not especially considering i dont have a carbon canister by default in my car.

Thanks for your help as always.

Sometimes my 2000 Integra does this on really hot days, when idling in a hot parking lot for long periods of time. I assume it is just the canister getting overwhelmed.
