The black circle shows what the restrictor plate is on the filter pipe...

The red circle shows where that restrictor plate is...

Hope that helps.

i wonder what the heck that does.

why would they restrict the flow of air before the turbo? to make the charge temps higher????

I did not know that existed. Probably they do it for CARBs. restrict the air flow, less air to compress causing longer time to spool up. i think that makes sense i am going to look into that

Yep, I think it's for CARB.

Its a "rubber thing" thats a pain in the *** to get on!! You need that so the filter will be mounted on the piping ( You clamp into the bottom of it ).

Would the Apexi filters that 2K_Teg work on the greddy turbo (referring to placement)? maybe those will help airflow. or maybe i will just use the K&N from my AEM CAI.

When I took mine off, I noticed that sound of the turbo spooling was noticeably louder. Took some friends for a ride the other night, and they all made mention of how much they could hear the turbo spool. Performance-wise, on my car, I didn't feel much of a gain. But then again, I do live in Florida, and all we get is hot muggy weather. Not good for forced induction.

It's just 4 spot welds. Took a dremel to it with no problems.

You know I was wondering what that was there for. I just wanted to get boosting so I left the thing on and forgot about it. Now I'm putting a bounty on that thing this weekend.

I cut mine off when dynoing my car. Gained 20hp!!!! from cutting it off. Nothing else done to it in between runs.

You can make the Apexi work, but it will take some work if you know what i mean. It wont be a direct replacement.

20 hp? really? Well I cut mine off also with a hack saw and it took freaking forever!! At the end, just used a screwdriver and a hammer to knock that piece off. When I took my car out for a drive, my turbo was definately louder and it felt faster (but I think it might be psychological based on the fact I could hear my turbo more). Definately cut that **** off!

I am looking at my filter right now, and see what you are talking about. But i am also looking at my K&N and they are almost the same. they have a wide bottom but then close in to fit the pipe. I agree though that the filter does look a lot more restrictive than the K&N. I am debating on what to do. If you remove the "restrictive plate" than what is used to hold the filter onto the charge pipe?

After looking over it again, i dont think i really have the "restrictor plate" that you are talking about.

also from another thread I found out that the plate is there to prevent boost spikes on non intercooled kits.

Definitely take that plate off and you'll notice that you'll hear the turbo spool a lot louder. Install a 2.5" dp and it even get's louder.

Art, you really think it would be a PITA to use an Apexi filter? I really want one for my Greddy, but if that wouldn't work well, what about the fully stainless steel Blitz filters? I know they don't flow as well as the Apexi, but I doubt it would matter much with a turbo. BTW, did the Greddy kit you just installed come with this restrictor? I'll check tomorrow if I have one.

Anyone here use a Blitz filter?
