Default My car was just stolen and finally recovered, I need help to get it going again.

So my 2000 GSR was stolen Saturday morning and recovered later that night. They stole the valve cover, the interior, and the ECU. This is what it looks like after it was recovered.

So my question is, when researching to buy a new ECU, I realized that I have to buy the 2000-2001 GSR ECU because those ECUs were the ones with the immobilizer chip. My dad said that they have to re-flash the ECU so it matches with the chip in my key. Is that true and would the dealership do that or can it be done another way. Also I need to buy a new seat and I was thinking of just going to the junkyard and finding one there. Will a civic or accord seat work. I just need to get the car running and have a drivers seat as soon as possible, the rest of the stuff can weight.

Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated, this is the first time this has happened to me and I am kind of lost on what I should do.

Thanks

Yes a civic seat from a 92-95 civic I know will fit. As for the ecu I really have no experience with that part. Good luck.

I don't understand those people.
It takes at least 2 to 3 guys to get a car stripped and parts sold.
You have to sell the parts really cheap to flip them fast.
So you end up making around $2k for two or three people out of one car.
That is like a $1000 profit - a 2 week payroll at a regular job.
WTF is wrong with them thieves???

Glad you had it recovered fast. You can fit any civic or integra seat in there. Just post on Craigslist that you need one. Wouldn't cost much.
From what I know, only the 99-01 versions came with the immobilizer. If you could find an older OBD2 ECU, that should do the trick.
They probably broke the ignition too. You can swap your ignition lock from one housing to another. That way you can still keep your original key that fits your doors.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.

So My brother was helping me do some research and he said that I will need a "p72 OBD2" ECM (is ECM the same this as an ECU?)

And what do you mean by a chipped ecu? Sorry I have been out of the car world for a few years and I don't remember as much as I used to.

Yes ECM and ECU are the same thing, control module control unit same difference.

A chipped ecu is one that has the original chip desoldered, then solder in a "socket" in which you can place most aftermarket chips, ie. Hondata, uberdata, crome, turboedit, neptune.

Sucks about your car, I would be happy they didn't strip the whole thing. At least they left the engine, wheels bumpers, hood, dash, etc. Most do not. Good luck with everything

So with the chipped ECU will the immobilizer work?

If you use a OBD1 p72 (gsr) ecu, with an adapter harness (OBD2b to OBD1), the immobilizer will be bypassed I believe.

I don't think you can have your immobilizer back without spending a **** load of money at the dealership.
Just bypass it and use a killswitch for an added security.

Put in two kill switches, one for fuel another for ignition, buy a steering wheel lock (bar thingy), and for extreme measures, take your dist. cap and wires.

if you use a jumper harness and an obd1 ecu you will not need to worry about the immobilizer. The car will fire right up.

This is a true statement. I have an 01 integra with a obd2 to obd1 jumper to a chipped p28 and it fires right up.

I have heard that those bars are just useless cause someone could just cut the steering wheel and take it right out.

Is the obd2 to odb1 adapter hard to find?

Also what is a good place to find these parts? My brother says try ebay, but I don't trust ebay that much.

Usually, it ends up much worse for the owner. Minimal damage here compared to what it could have been. Consider yourself very very lucky, in a sense.

Congrats on getting it back, and good luck with the new build

I bet they stole your car via the obd1 conversion instant bypass... I bet your old Ecu is laying on the side of the road or something its only worth like 50 bucks and can be traced back to your car. I would put up 2 wanted adds on craigslist.. bet you buy back some of your own parts... If you get a response from the same number on both possibly it could be your stuff...

Just switch to OBD1

Care to explain the stolen via obd1 conversion instant bypass? His wasn't converted to obd1, it was still obd2b. or ar you saying the thieves just hooked up an obd1 ecu to bypass the imobilizer?

Well I know they didn't hook up an obd1 and bypassed the immobilizer because they broke my steering lock then pushed it with another car. My rear bumper is all scratched up and it looks like there are grill marks on it from another car.

off topic, but thieves dont have to pay tax, lol. that 1000 profit at a regular job turns out to be 700 after tax.

I'll still take a stable, legal 700 every two weeks over a "maybe" 1000.

How can people live like that, trying to feed a family with the cash from stolen parts... get a real job.

So Acura dealership wants to charge me $800 for a new ECU and $190 to program it...

On another note, does anyone know of cheap car seat I can buy?

looks like the immobilizer failed to work.... Civic seats will work as i have them in my GSR after my car was stolen.

LISTEN GUY. VERY CLOSELY. The steering wheel lock is a mechanical lock out. The immobilizer is an electrical lock out. The immobilizer consists of three things the key fob, the chip in the ecu, and the sensor around the key hole in the column. Im not nor is anyone else going to sit here and tell you how to steal our cars, its childs play anyways. All the information is here in this thread. Just listen to the information and stop asking questions.I WILL SAY THIS ONE MORE TIME BUY AN OBD2B TO OBD1 JUMPER HARNESS FROM RYWIRE.COM AND AN OBD1 ECU AND CALL IT A DAY. IF YOU CANT FIGURE THE REST OUT SHOOT YOURSELF IN THE FACE. /Thread.

Its illegal for you to go from OBD2 to OBD1 in california, keep your car stock and get obd2 Ecu with Ignition and key...

Do it right the first time, that way every 2 years you dont have to run around looking for an illegal place to pass your smog
