Default turbo too big

So guys I'm needing opinions on a matter including a turbo. So my friend got his car wrecked the other day and he had a 99 si with a b16 engine. He had that car turboed and he ended up selling me the complete kit for 800. The kit consisted of a top mount manifold, custom b16 piping, tial wastegate and blow off valve, 3" dump tube, a manual boost controller and what he said is a gt40 precision turbo. I have been reading a good amount of information over turbos lately since I've been wanting to turbo my ls integra.

The question I have is I know the gt40 is a huge turbo it has a. 83 ar on the compressor side which will take all day to spool, would you guys recommend me putting this turbo on a bone stock ls integra(already checked compression and did a leak down everything was fine) or would anyone want to trade me a smaller one like maybe a gt28 or gt30

So this is a for trade thread?

put it up on classifieds for sale and use the cash to get you 50 or 57 trim.

If it is in fact a gt40, then yes. Get a 57trim t3/t4 instead.

I'm sorry for all the confusion regarding the matter of the turbo I just bought. I was actually refering to both things wondered; I was wondering if its just plain stupid to slap this on my ls integra meaning I couod just go with it since its the turbo I already have. I also asked if maybe someone on here would perhaps have interest in trading for the turbo I have. I have contemplated making an official for sale/wtt thread, but I haven't sinve I am not completely sure on what to do.

It's not the "A/R" that's too big. its everything. you need to understand what exactly a GT40 turbocharger is first, and understand how turbochargers in general work. Look at the FAQs at the beginning of the FI thread and start looking through there first.

He wants to sell it to you for $800 because you'll be silly enough to take it.... Because you're 17 and want to go "FAST". That's like handing a loaded gun to a 4 year old and asking him to take it to the range to see how well he can shoot.. Just before the kid shoots himself in the leg..

Bottom line is.. don't buy it at all, because you don't quite understand what you're getting into with his parts. Now if he plans on putting this together for you, well, you guys can work it out. But to put that large a turbocharger on an engine as suffering as an LS , is just going to make you want to take the same car and drive off of a cliff with it, because you were naive enough to buy it.

Take a look at other setups here with your engine platform (googling it is much easier than using the search function on here) and start studying that. This is just going to end up bad for you, so its best you start from scratch. k?

Right.......ok then, OP, I've already given you my .02 cents and SHodan has pretty well covered the bases with what you should do as well. Good luck with your build!

Well. its all over. OP fell for the poisoned kool-aid, got suckered and bought the kit. Hopefully he'll recover something for it and make lemonade out of lemons.. Good luck to him.

Now quit fighting, children.. Or I'll stand you in the corner for "time out"

I dont see how he "took advantage" of a you kid? If the manifold is decent, the tial wastegate & bov are legit, not to mention the rest of the parts I would have paid 800 without the turbo!

No I know the guy didn't take advantage of me I have been wanting a turbo kit for a while and I've been reading up on it. I just ran into a chance to get a good turbo, my friend aka a fellow co worker (I work at acura as tech helper) wrecked his b16 si and he was going to originally sell this for maybe 2k but he asked me how much I had on me then that's when I said I have 800 then he said eff it I need the money to buy a car so I gave him the money for a turbo kit which consisted of a
Gt 40 precision turbo
tial bov and wastegate
piping
Precision intercooler
Top mount manifold
rc 750cc injectors
manual boost controller
3" downpipe

I still say he got "ripped" a new one because 1) he doesn't know what it takes yet to get it to his needs as a first time turbo-car owner, even if he had the extra money like the rest of you do.
2) He's not aware of the parts needed to make this turbo kit work, (clamps, fittings, bolts, etc) nor the value of the parts properly to resell and get money back
3) You think its a good idea to get a GT40 Top-mounted race kit for a STOCK LS?.. He wasted money. He doesn't even know if its a true GT40 turbo or not BECAUSE HE'S NEVER SEEN ONE BEFORE!! Much less know what it can and can't do and what to sell it for.

You gotta remember, most of you all have a better knowledge base of understanding about turbochargers and kits than he does. Now he's stuck with stuff that won't work for his needs, and will waste time searching for the best buyer to take it off his hands, and still figure out what he needs to make it right. A waste of time still = a waste of money, ergo.. he got ripped off in my opinion.

he has parts to start on his build though

he could build the block, and go lsv being that he is young he could spend the next 3 years or so putting things togather

I dont think you got ripped off at all, 800 bucks is a steal for what you got. Do some research get the rest of the parts you need and have fun till that stock ls pops.

Honestly I thought I got a good deal, but what theshodan is telling me makes sense I bought a kit that's too much for my car, but luckily the shodan has honestly helped me out with all this so I will probably be selling this whole kit minus the bov and wastegate and maybe the injectors and intercooler
