i have a H22a4 that had bad miss fire due to bent valves. i am redoing the head and going to rebuild the bottom while it is still out of the car. i was thinking about putting the rebuilt one back into the car (its the original motor) and selling the car with the new motor in it but would it be more profitable to sell the rebuilt motor by its self and sell the car (133k miles with 170k mile motor) by its self. the car is in great shape except for the bumpers with some damage on them. ok that gets me to the real question..

what would a rebuilt motor go for?
used motor with 170k on it go for? (runs great)
car with rebuilt motor that is in pretty good shape go for?
car with used motor in it go for?

i know what KBB is telling me but im sure that the car can be sold for more due to demand and condition.

also i have an extra 5speed base trans that came with the 170k motor. what do they go for?

 

sorry for the long post but i know a lot of you guys have experience with selling Honda parts and what they really go for. i plan on buying a truck pretty soon and well i thought i was going to be really into modding the prelude but it just isnt me.

Why don't you do a search in the Classifieds, Autotrader, Craigslist? Would be better to have original engine that came in the car instead of one that has higher miles than the car itself. I wouldnt buy it that way. I don't go off of KBB. Shop around and do the math

 

On a used engine you don't know the history on it. I would suggest using the rebuilt one you have. I have seen used h's selling for $450 to $750 dollars in junkyards, and on craigslist. If bent valves are your only problem i have a complete h22a4 head fresh from the machine shop i will sell you. pm me if interested.

 

i didnt really get into the diag too much on the motor yet. the guy was at the drag strip and miss shifted from 3rd to 2nd at redline so my guess is bent valves but he drive the car for about a year after it with cylinder 2&4 misfire. the car drove fine but sounded like bad. i want to rebuild the bottom end also just casue he drove on it for so long with the miss fire.
