Default School me on EJ6/8 civic's

Hi guys I'm looking for some info on EJ6/8 civics.

I just purchased a 1996 civic ej sedan 5 spd with low low low km's
I'm into the domestic scene and own a couple mustangs but civics to me are a mystery i want to do something to my ride to make it stand out but i don't care about speed as i have a car that quenches my thirst for speed

I'm looking for advice on mod's that are really clean and give a unique look to a sedan and really make it stand out from a bone stock civic that your grandma might drive. as well interior mods and stuff like that.

again I'm not interested in speed.

i have a roughly 750 dollar budget. i already have rims for these car

i will be using this car for my commute so exhaust and going "hellaflush" don't really interest me much.

Lessee...
Requirements:$750 + Something different + Unique look - Exhaust - Lowering - Rims = Result:Not happening. There's nothing out there that hasn't been done to a Civic. Especially not for your lowly budget. But there's always Ebay.
Maybe tint your windows. Swap out steering wheel.

Or as was suggested, browse the Appearance forums and find out what YOU LIKE since no one here can possibly know that but YOU.

if all you car about is looks, you might want to look into converting your front end and back end into an Acura EL/Honda Domani.
But besides that, lowering it would be appealing (don't cheap out on suspension either, you could end up paying for it later)

Maybe a front lip, window tint, smoking the tails, blackening the headlight housings, de-badge, new steering wheel, ipod ready deck, new pedals/dead pedal.

That's about all I can think of, but then again none of that stuff is unique in the H community. $750 isn't going to get you very far, good luck.

Since you need to be schooled, heres a lesson..

this is an EK

No such thing as an EK coupe or EK sedan..
If its not an EM1, theyre all EJ's

Edit: i going for the EM hatch since the 96-00 civics seen to have many names which are all wrong.

what'd honda churn out in numbers of civics from 96-00? 25-30million units? take 10% off that for wrecks.... and lets round down to 20 million on the road today.

nothing....will make a car unique aside from something ridiculous done to it that has 20 million relatives.

If its got low low low km's...keep her minty. I have a few civics from all the years. Mine are all rust free. Id bet 9 out of 10 civics I see from 00 and back all always have rust. Mine being rust free makes it super unique up here. (This is a big deal in the rust belt of the NE.....lucky *** calif/florida/texas boys)

I will tell you what I have done to my coupe. B16B Type-R( full swap). LS integra seats, EK4 SiR steering wheel( non-SRS), Si gauge cluster, full welded, 2.25 inch exhaust, with resonator delete, Acura SPED wheels, soon to have a rear disc swap, Ground Control coilovers( Eibach springs and Koni oranges), mild sound system upgrade.

Most of the work was done to de-rice the car, and correct things that the previous owner screwed up, like the stock exhaust with a B-swap. The B16A1 that came with the car blew up a year after I got the car. I am picking up new doors to replace the shaved doors that came with the car. Replaced fenders, mirrors, got rid of the rear wing, tail lights, and now am looking for a new trunk, hood and bumper.

Welcome.

Despite people telling you the fact that our 96-00 Civics are actually NOT "EK" civics I knew what you meant. "EK" is a widely accepted reference for 96-00 Civics - it is still a loose term for 96-00 Civic.

I just purchased a 1996 civic ek sedan 5 spd with low low low km's

If I were to build a domestic it'd be a notchback coupe Fox Body Mustang. Probably a '90 or so - base model or LX or course.

As far as making the Civic "stand out" as others have pointed out it really is impossible these days to make Civics "stand out" unless of course you have crazy paint schemes, graphics, etc. The appearance/cosmetic forum someone linked earlier is actually a really good place to look.

I'm looking for advice on mod's that are really clean and give a unique look to a sedan and really make it stand out from a bone stock civic that your grandma might drive. as well interior mods and stuff like that.

Id say some nice stockish-rate lowering springs and new shocks to not only lower the car, but also make it handle better, and if the right parts are chosen it can even ride BETTER than worn-out stock stuff. I've had a few nice lowering set-ups that didn't slam the car, and rode very nicely. Tein S-Tech or Eibach Pro Kit springs and KYB GR-2 shocks are an economical choice IMO.

Not lowering your Civic while having aftermarket wheels will make it stand out, but in a bad way.

Subtle things like an OEM style front lip would be nice - the 96-98 JDM EK SiR lip is nice:

I know it's a hatchback, but the lip is the same.

OP, you're really going to have to look around to get an idea of what you like.

But standard modifications are usually wheels, lower the car and add a front lip.

Your choices of those depend on your tastes.

And yes, the 1996-1998 Civic coupe, hatch and sedan front ends are all the same (besides the grille) for the US cars. So a front lip or headlights for a coupe or hatch will fit your car.

While there are no EK chassis cars originally sold in the US, true EK chassis cars include hatchbacks and sedans.

All USDM 1996-2000 Civics are EJ chassis except for the EM1 (Si coupe) and EN1 (GX sedan).

Only the sedan (and hatches) with the B16A stock were the EK4s.

de-badge, remove rear spoiler/wing, install 99-00 front bumper with fog lights, install front lip, and lower it with proper suspension parts (struts, springs, camber kits)

Question from a _very_ newb (me - first car):

I have an EJ (by vin). I was very confused by the "EK" moniker as there is no EK in the NA Honda SM. I've been corrected on more than one occasion and was told I have an "EK". I tried to argue my point to no avail.

What exactly constitutes an "EK", why can I not find any reference to this sub-model in the SM, and where are all the EK owners on this forum obtaining these vehicles?

Thanks.

IDK where this EK thing started.. i could see if it stuck with hatches only (USDM) but EK coupe just pisses me off.

It's a monicker given to 96-00 Civics much like EG is given to 92-95. It's too ingrained into most peoples mentality and won't go away so don't try. I'm not sure why people get so riled up about it, its about the same as VTECH, yeah we understand its VTEC but you don't have to post a pic of a VTECH phone or reprimand someone every time they do it, just kindly remind them its spelling. Also on the EK/EG thing have you ever noticed this forum title:

Honda Civic/Del Sol (1992 - 2000)
EG/EK Civics Discussion

Sorry my Saturday morning rant, carry on

People who insist it's an EK aren't wrong, per say... "EK" is a term often used to refer to 1996-2000 Civics in general. Some people use it to only refer to hatches, but in reality the cars with actual EK chassis are hatches and sedans, but not in the US.

Your chassis code is your fourth, fifth, and sixth VIN digits.

I've been into Hondas for years now. I like to learn. So it's just natural that I picked these sorts of things up Plus I wrote the biggest chassis code list I've ever seen (removed it from the net for corrections and also was getting tired of people saying it was easy and they were going to write a better one - none has shown up though...).

I too find it easiest to just call them by the generation. That way no one's confused.

This guy bought a Honda, and he came here to find out stuff about it - H-T has a bad enough reputation for being chock full-o asses that like to run fellow Honda enthusiasts off, so I'd like to welcome the guy.

He never asked about opinions on if he should sell one of his Mustangs to buil up his Civic, so your opinion (while you're entitled to it) did nothing to build upon the discussion at hand.

If you want to intentionally remain ignorant to other makes and models by not choosing to educate yourself, that's cool. Just because I have a more broad knowledge base about non-Hondas doesn't mean that I'm not a Honda guy to the core. I happen to own four of them, and they're not being sold any time soon.

Hannslebo your makin yourself look like a fool, sorry but I've personally owned a built 331 Fox body with a T56 6 speed, and would routinely get almost 30mpg. Thats with 400 whp and 430+ wtq all natural, I love Honda more than most, and will be the first to inform someone to purchase one, but to act like an iconic car like the Mustang is a POS, is rediculous, you should stick to hardparkin with your geeksquad, at the nieghborhood cruise in.

As for a nice sedan, theirs nothing that hasn't been done before with most popular tuner cars including Mustangs, and Honda's alike. Get some decent loweing springs, I reccomend the Tein springs for daily use, some nice shocks, and some tint. Throw some gas mileage stuff at it as well intake, exhaust, etc... should look nice and ride great. And, as for the inside EM1 leather wrapped steering wheel, and stereo upgrades, and maybe DB Integra front and rear seats, hope this was a help, have fun with it.
