ok i got a noob question
H block, B transmission
AKA ... Prelude VTEC motor, Civic/Integra tranny
Its a setup for getting an H22/23 swapped into a Civic/Integra, using the Prelude motor for the power and the Civic tranny for the gearing.

TYPE..gear-ratio-wise, how does that stack up against an H tranny in a lude? I have an H22a with an accord tranny...i dont mind it just for the top end power, but i'm still weighing the swap option to an H..if i dont boost or supercharge.
I think the lude LSD trannys hold their own, all others are much slower.
You do have to understand that this setup is specifically for going into a civic, not a Prelude. With the H2B setup, I use standard B-series axles, and the geometry is all correct. This is unlike using an H tranny and needing special axles or dealing with the H axles binding and breaking.
I'm not going to say you can't do an H2B in a Prelude, just that it wouldn't be worth it.

being not worth it isn't entirely true....shorter gearing is always faster. Problem is figuring out the axles to run and you'd definitely have to make a custom mount. So in that aspect i see what your saying (i'm curious now to see if some of these prelude guys have tried this) off to search.

$750+ for the mounting kit, $500-$1000 for a decent LSD B series tranny, $100-$2000 for a B-series clutch $50-100 for a set of used B-series axles, B-series shift linkage [this is another major difference between the Prelude and the Civic/Integra cable vs solid linkage]
^ that's just to get it into a Civic
On top of that you have to custom fab a motor mount and find or make axles for the tranny in the Prelude and figure out something to do with the linkage once its in.
I suppose you could skimp on the tranny and just find an LS one cheap ... but the point of the swap is the gear ratios of the LSD trannies ...
And as you said ... new final drive ... way cheaper ... what're they like $400-$800
The benefit for Civics, on top of the gear ratios, is that you get to use all stock Honda parts, besides the mounting kit. The tranny is sitting in the stock location making all the geometry correct so you don't have to worry about axle binding or getting special axles designed for the swap that take 4 weeks to ship to your door. You can use axles from your local Napa or wherever you like to go.
