Default d15 w/y8 manifolds - won't turn over

I helped a friend swap a obd1 d15 into his 96 civic. we swapped the manifolds, bypassed crank position sensor, put in a knock sensor, and jumped the distributor to obd1. Been trying to start it up with no luck, it doesn't turn over. It's not throwing any codes.

The one thing I do notice is when I put the key into the (on) position II, the D1 light comes on and and off like the check engine light (even makes the same noise. Could that be affecting the motor? the car is an automatic. Also another thing is that the car has been sitting for over a year and a half, so is the gas in there too old?

Please give feed back, anything will help. Thanks

Fuel pump prime?

Is spark bright white at all 4 plugs?

Will the engine start with starting fluid?

Is the mechanical timing dead on?

Good cylinder compressions?

fuel primes, checked timing and compression. haven't tried starter fluid or check if there's spark. Will do that today and see where that goes. thanks!

Does the CEL work? Did you try starting fluid? Is spark bright white at all 4 plugs? Are the plug wires installed in the correct firing order on the cap?

Year and a half old gas might be a little on the to old side. Just depends though, sometimes water can even get in there. Follow what ron said and try starter fluid. And you keep saying it doesnt turn over. Do you mean the starter doesnt turn the motor over at all, or it just wont fire up.

yeah it just won't fire up. I haven't had a chance to go over because I don't want to go over there without nothing. I know the firing order is correct. gas, we put newer gas in. as for the spark, I had the ignitor tested and it was good. but I haven't checked for spark, can you rent the tool?

A tool to test for spark? What I always do is take an extra spark plug and pull one of the wires off and put the spare spark plug in. Then have someone crank the motor over while you check for spark. It should be bright white like Ron said. I would also get a can of starter fluid just for ***** and giggles to see if it a is a fuel related problem.

You can click the "check spark" link in Ron@HT's signature next to useful links for detailed a more description

thanks i'll check that out. I forgot to mention that it's an automatic, would that be a problem?
