Default 1990 Honda GB500 leaking from the crankcase breather tube

Hello All,

My 1990 Honda GB500 is leaking a LARGE amount of fluid from the crankcase breather tube. It doesn't leak much while it's running but after riding for at least 30 minutes when I reach my destination and turn off the bike it pukes out a LOT of fluid. It looks like oil mostly but there's a slight smell of gas also. It's also difficult to start after sitting in the sun all day but I'm not sure if these problems are related.

Does anyone know what might be causing the fluid leak? It's a california model so it has the emission control setup on it. It sometimes comes out of the airbox also.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Lee

How many miles on it?
Does it or has it sat for an extended period of time?

I would start by making sure the gas cap vent is working. Then I would take
the carb apart and clean it. Make sure to inspect the float and set its height.

Thanks for the response,

It has about 23,000 miles on it. It sits in my garage for about 6 months of the year due to a long winter where I live but these problems were occuring in the summer when I was riding it daily.

Pardon my ignorance but how do I check if the gas cap is venting? I will definitely take the carb apart before spring rolls around.

It looks like I'll have to trace the vent line from the tank that used to be a part of the emissions system or see if it was capped off.
