need help with Ca smog. 92 cx w/d16z6
I need some help getting my 1992 civic cx with a d16z6 swap to pass Ca smog. Its got an Aem cold air intake, 9lb fly, pace setter headers, custom 2" exhaust with cat & no name muffler (about a year and a half old). No check engine light.
I have never gotten into emissions so I don't know what I should be looking to replace. Any help would be appreciated.
Here's the numbers from the failed test:
ignition timing= 14*btdc
15mph: fail, gross polluter
%CO2: 14.4
%o2: .3
HC- max:96, meas:141
CO- max: .59, meas: .60
NO- max:859, meas:2543
25mph: pass
%CO2: 14.9
%O2: 0.0
HC- max:79, meas 79
CO- max: .51, meas: .32
NO- max:798, meas:652

Have you done a full ignition system tune up? The ignition timing should be set to 16-degrees BTDC.
Does the CEL work? Do you have the correct ECU and distributor?

The cel works. The swap i bought had a bad dizzy and was giving me a code 9. New distributor installed, no more codes. Ecu is a p28 from a manual. I put in new spark plugs as well. The motor runs strong, not like its getting a weak spark
The nox is WAY off, thats why this issues has me stumped. My dad (old school mech) keeps telling me that these civics require a special cat.

The new dizzy is from autozone, its the right one (vs non vtec model?), and has be re-adjusted. New plug wires installed yesterday as well. Cap and rotor have less than 1k miles and look to be in good condition. All 4 plugs are NGK V-power, gapped to .044.. Seems to be running about the same, no noticable difference. Going in for my free retest tomorrow after work. If it fails again, should I be looking to replace the cat?
i need help with that too can anyone help me i have a 98 honda civic ex with a b20b and intake, headers, gsr tranny and a new apexi ws2 exhaust system with a catalytic converter so let me know if anyone can help me two
So I passed the test today. Had a new cat and pcv valve installed this morning. Before, it was tested as a 1.5l this time out was tested as a 1.6. NOx dropped to 351@15mph and 0@25mph, CO 0.13@15 & 0.02@25, HC 108@15 & 39@25. Although it passed, I'm a little concerned about the Hc count because it measured at the max limit @15mph.
