Default K20a, how do I know it is the Type R?

Are there any visual difference when you are looking at the Type R compared to the other K20s that let you know that it is the Type R? Stamps on the block and head? Maybe some components that are different?

Obviously the red valve cover lol. The type R also has a black dipstick (all others are orange), the plastic says i-vtec with just DOHC under it, and the block code is K20A (no numbers following). Thats all I can think of off top!

Intake mani should have prc somewhere on it(dc5r) or rrc (fd2). Also fd2 k20's use a rsp head casting, can't remember what the dc5r used....

This engine that someone is claiming is a type r has a silver, or probably stripped valve cover, and an aftermarket intake manifold. It is stamped k20a, so I don't know for sure if he is telling the truth

Im not sure if the k20a(base) model has the vtec pressure switch on the head or not, but I know the k20a(type r) does not have one...

Also have them send you pics of the head without a valve cover on it.

stick a bore scope down throught the spark plug hole & you should be able to see "PRC" or "RRC" on the piston.

keep in mind a base k20a3 motor in japan is stamped the same as the jdm R motor "k20a"

cylinder head should be stamped PRB or RSP

Just finished putting a JDM base K20 into an EP3, it came without the pressure switch.
