Hey Everyone,

My clutch is about to take a dump on me so I will be replacing it next weekend. I am ordering a OE Exedy clutch off of egay, as well as a light weight flywheel. I dont want to get into the advantages or disadvantages of each, but would like to know if anyone is running one under 10 pounds. I see one that weighs 8.5lbs (and F1) and one that weighs 10lbs (XTD). I have heard that a very lightweight flywheel will cause some cars to stall... anyone have experince with that? 8.5 or 10?

I personally don't like them, but if you really want one, I suggest you get the 10 lb. it will be better in traffic. My biggest suggestion is don't get the OE replacement get the Exedy stage 1 instead, even if that means you can't afford the flywheel.

 

i have a 8lb fidanza in my cb7 f22a swap. the difference is the engine seems to rev really quick(less rotating weight to move) which makes the clutch engagement point a little harder to catch correctly and smoothly. but with practice ive gotten used to it and like the quick shifts better then with the stock flywheel.

i would not suggest it if you drive the car in a lot of traffic everyday. but if your good at driving a stick its not too bad and the gains(rpm drop for shifting-not hp gains since it is a bolt on mod) are noticeable

 

Thanks guys. I went with the 11.5 lb flywheel and stage 1 clutch. I figured it would be easier in stop and go traffic.

 

I have an Exedy stage 1 and 8lbs Fidanza flywheel, and I weekend DD the car with no problem. Feels like stock.

 

Yeah but you have a H22... all that torque lol.

 

Its dyno proven. I have seen in it in a magazine recently. A lightweight flywheel does increase horsepower at higher RPMs. However it does reduce torque. I had a 10lb in my 91 Civic. It was very hard not to stall, and could no longer do burnouts. It did rev up and down faster.

 

So I have had my flywheel in for a couple months and have put some miles on it. The best way to describe the changes is like it took 100k miles of the motor. It revs quicker and the motor feels much smoother and stronger. Worth the money I put into it. My gas mileage in the city went up about 1.5 MPG and highway remained the came.

You may notice a rough idle when running the AC in summertime.
I have a fidanza 8lb flywheel, exedy stage 1 clutch and solid front and rear mounts and the idle is noticeably rougher than stock, even with that I still think it's worth the tradeoff.

 

Mine idles perfect. I think that might be more a function of your solid mounts lol.

I have considered removing my balance shafts as well but decided not too based on the vibration I already have with my current setup.
