So first, i know jack all when it comes to Honda's. I love my Volvo's, and Audis.. but the time has come to get a Honda.

That said, the stock cars bore the living **** out of me and I've been looking at buying a swapped civic.

I'm looking at a 92 EG:

"d16z6 1.6L single vtech, header, hks exuast cat back, intake, few other things.

190,000 miles on car 130,000 miles on motor, tranny was rebuilt in August of this year, new clutch and flywheel.

8k HID headlights, stock fogs, after market duck bill, tinted windows including windshield (has a couple rock chips but have been repaired)

Power windows, clifford alarm, remote start, center console with armrest, grey leather fronts and back.

Lowered on coilovers in front and springs in rear, NICE RIDE, on 14" steelies with brand new all season tires for winter. "


Guy wants 3k for the car and its flat blacked but I do not mind that, actually kinda like the way it looks. I'm just looking to find something i can hop into and drive for a couple of years and as long as these cars are swapped right are they as reliable as stock so long as i keep up on basic maintenance?

The D16Z6 was the stock engine that came in 1993-1995 Civic EX coupes, 1992-1995 Civic Si hatches, and 1992-1995 Civic EX sedans. It's about a 125 hp engine.

Even if this was a CX/DX/LX/VX, it's still an engine that was available in that type of car.

If you want a swapped Civic of that generation I'd look for a B-series swapped Civic. The engines should be pretty reliable stock as long as their timing belts are changed on time. A snapped timing belt on these engines can trash the motor.

 

Personally, I don't buy already modded Hondas, or any car for that matter! I try to buy as close to stock as possible!

Same with my purchases to date too, but I know there are well-swapped Hondas out there because I own some. I'd also never lie about any issues with a car I was selling though. Not all other people are that truthful and if you're not educated about it you can end up with a hacked up car.

 

Well like i said i know very little about "tuned" Hondas.

Now I can tell you how to cram a Turbo'd whiteblock into a 240, or a 16v Turbo and get 400hp out of a 740 but these little honda motors i know nothing about.

The flat back does not bother me, nor does the car running on steelies.

I would rather have a stock car with some tasteful mods done but taht is nearly impossible to find in the Seattle area.

I was also looking at this hatch but its about $500 over what i want to spend on a early 90's hatch in total.

The first civic is an Si hatchback, it came stock with the same engine, so there should be absolutely no issues there. From what I can see the car looks well put together, however it's obviously something you'd want to examine closely in person. If you have a friend that knows Hondas take them with you to look at it. The second on is swapped. Overall I'd say the first one is the better car.

I really do not know entirely "what" i'm looking for when looking at these and the only Honda mechanic friend have is in London lol.

I really am just trying to daily drive, but still not get bored with the car at the same time.

Been looking at accords also but realize that if i get an accord, might as well just allow my search in that market to extend to automatics (not a fan of autos at all) but the nicer Accord examples are all autos.

I love this car, but at $2800 (what his lowest is) to me it seems kinda high for something i suspect will need more work than the average honda, and while a little more is fine.. again not looking for problems.. though this car does look nice.

 

if they can't spell vtec i would stay away. hell it's printed on the valve cover

I already low-balled him, lowest he said he would go is $2800 which I think is a little steep, I'd do $2600.

Hell if anybody here in the PNW has a decent little civic/accord/tegra with a 5 speed thats tastefully modded to JDM style I have a cash for the right car. - I'm even considering Accord Auto's at this point.

Does not need to be finished of course, no swaps even needed/wanted. I'm starting out in the Honda world doing the Euro thing, cant expect any of this to be much more difficult then finding a parasitic drain on a bmw in which no indication to relay or short exist and no draw can be found at the fuse outlet...screw that.

I look forward to a Honda. Haha.
