I've been trying to do a lot of research on Race fuel, but still haven't found my answers. I don't want opinions but facts. Im currently on a Fully Build B16A Dart sleeves, 82mm stoke stroke, pistons/rods/built head etc. Made 440hp on 93 octane. I was curious as to what kind of gains i would get if i ran some Q16/vp fuel for a retune.
When i was researching all i can gather from higher octane fuel, is that it helps the chance of detonation/pinging. But How exactly does it help it make more power or will it? Does it burn faster/cleaner? etc..
What about if i went to E85? I know E85 raises the duty cycle on the injectors but what makes E85 on a tune, make more power?..
Thanks in advance..

e85 is the way to go man, but you will need a pump gas tune as well we have been seeing some wierd rubber build up in the injectors and the only thing we have seen work to get it out was just to run pump gas through the injectors and it disipates
other than that we have loved it well along with the price of the stuff

E85 burns cooler and has a higher octane rating (105) you need more fuel than 91 to reach the same power. The duty cycle raises because you need more fuel to create the sa.me power. About 30%

look at my numbers in my signature. i ran into some boost control issues on the dyno and wasnt able to raise the boost on the racegas like i wanted to.
the pump gas is 93 sunoco
the race gas was only vp c12, im certain c16/q16 will get even better gains.
with the c12 i was able to run 5-6 degrees more ignition timing and about .5 afr point leaner as determined from how my engine was making power/how the plugs looked.
the benefits of higher octane and how it allows for more power has already been stated

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm glad to hear actual experience and testing, not some " i heard this or that bullshit."
I've been reading somethings about e85 can be corrosive or corrode overtime...So Q16 seems to make better power over C16?

e85 for 3 years now, and never seen any carosiveness
there is some rubber build up in the injectors after time, but as stated before run pump gas in it from time to time and it will dissapear

pump e85 has been known to make 800+ man
if you are worried about consistancy then they sell 5 dollar test tubes lol
i have never seen or had an issue with it yet though

E85 > Race fuel It's cheeeap compared to race fuel. (At least in TN it's $2.60/gal)
I guess this really depends on availability... I have 3 stations within 15 miles of my home.

and where is the research you read that says it eats rubber so i can go read it????

i think that driving a fully built car on the street is hard on it, and will help in it eventually failing.
e85 to me is the best thing to happen to fuel in a long time
