i feel so sorry for this guy. i know it is a focus, and some people don't like them, but it could happen to anyone of us out there, even in a honda. the wrong driver input at the wrong time could be disastrous. luckily, no one got hurt. just remember, don't try to be a hero and save every slide/mistake. if you have to, mow down some cones or hit a timer. again, poor kid....
EDIT: removed for now, have to double check some things.

How violent was the roll? How fast was he going?
From the looks of that roofline, I won't be buying a Fuckus anytime soon

I'm happy it wasn't me, with the Silver Focus ZX3. It still scared the crap out of me though. I stayed with the kid til 5:15 when a flat bed finally picked him up.

Ouch. I hope the kid is ok and everything. A question or two though. Do you think the short wheelbase was a contributing factor to the rollover? I autoX my car and i'd hate to have that happen. I just wanted to hopefully learn to prevent a roll over.
Ouch! Some of these newer cars kinda scare me. The Focus, new Civic, etc seem to have a real high center of gravity.
Just curious, did this kid know his pics were going to be posted on the web? If I messed my car up at an event and wanted insurance to cover it, I probably wouldnt want pics of it all over the web. Before you know it, these pics will be on every car messageboard in the country.

Lots of pictures were taken by many people, they were bound to get out sometime.
These wont be available for many more hours

Well, at least he didn't hit the cone! What was his time?

Heather... i hear all the time about the bristol AutoX's, but haven't been able to make it to one yet... Do you have dates? Also, do you do winterX'ing? I dont know if my Si will be ready to autoX this year, but my neon is ready for winterX'ing...
To be fair, Drew, the reason rollover protection is needed for track cars are the extra legal speeds that the car sees. Manufacturers design their cars for rollovers less than ~60 mph.
down?
Drew - Who knows that Will knows what I am talking about . . .
OCTOBER 20 - This is an OPEN (and our last AutoX for the season) event. And yes there are winter Auto-x events.
I will have them posted at ctautoevents.com if any pop up. It pends on snowfall.

To be fair - they are also designed to use the stock seatbelts, which will allow the driver to be pushed down in the seat in the event of a rollover.
Plus, a rollbar wouldn't have helped at ALL in this case. The B-pillar is intact. The only way that the driver's safety is improved is with a rollcage. And that's a significant sacrifice for most people.
IMHO, harnesses should be considered on a case-by-case basis (whether the car is stock, prone to rollover, sticky tires, etc.) than with a blanket statement.
Andy - who does not wear a harnesses when autocrossing...
I may not make Drew's most popular list for this, but it looks like the factory roll structure survived.. am I missing something? Is it a trick of the pictures?
I don't disagree that a case-by-case arrangement could be used effectively. My comment was more directed at the people who are too stubborn to think that they won't roll their car in an autocross so they will be fine.
Sorry for any inconvience but I had to remove them becuase I was told to for insurance purposes. They will be back as soon as I hear from the owner. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

Having seen an autocross buddy roll his car in front of me (the Jetta a while back in the Camden lot), yeah I'll support that autocross can definitely see some vehicle rollovers

and if I recall correctly I agree that rollovers can happen at autoX...with the right combination of sticky tire, squishy suspension and driver error

I had heard that the Jetta in NJ was also running a stock suspension with stickies and not enough tire pressure.
This one will probbily be the first and last we see

Geesh, lets not scare people that are thinking about trying out autocrossing. I've been autocrossing for 3 years, and I've seen several accidents at autocross events, but never a rollover...in fact I've never seen anyone even come close. I think the odds of smacking a curb, poll, etc are much more likely. I think working the course is the most dangerous part of our sport, thats one place you really need to be on your toes.
