Default Hello fellow integra owners: questions about 5-speed conversion in a 1990

I just recently converted my 1990 acura integra ls automatic to 5 speed manual, theres been a few kinks since ive had a close friend of mine do it.....first and most important my damn mph censor dont work, figured it wouldnt but was wondering if its possible to have it working even tho its an automatic cluster? second i dont know if its just because im not shifting out of 1st correctly i rev to about 3500 rpm to get a little quick take off and thats when it gets a little stuck but when i shift when im going slow it slides like butter i dont hear no grinding so....im hoping its not damaged, im not going to lie my clutch may have some wear and tear i learned how to drive stick with this clutch lol, sorry for the long sentence im not much of a writer but you get my point when i figure out how to post pics ill post some up....

You need a manual cluster, and a manual ECU.

Damn that sucks about the axle seals. About the shifting problem, it sounds like your shift fork is sticking, did you drain the tranny fluid and put new fluid in after the trans was bolted up? Did you swap in the manual ecu yet? And did you make sure you bought an OBD0 ECU?

na what had happend was the drain bolt to my tranny was ****ed up so for a quick solution i bought some of that quick weld stuff, and made sure it was going to leak no more so after i figured out it was my axle seals, and one leaks pretty bad....ive been adding fluid every so often to make sure its not low, but in a month im upgradeing and buying a si or gsr tranny....with clutch kit etc...and no ive got just a basic manual ecu im running stock b18a1 nothin h/i/e

Well you have to be sure it's an OBD0 ecu, or else you will have to buy an adapter harness. And I would put that in now. And get a manual cluster.. If you used jbweld on the drain plug, I would definately swap in another tranny. I would go with a GSR tranny.

Auto/manual cluster won't be any different aside from having the Letters on one.
You can even run the auto ecu with no problems long as it's the right odb.

Are you sure your speed sensor isn't broken, or is it a cable on the DA's?

It's cable.

And the auto cluster doesn't have a tachometer.

Is this not it?

I know 94+ autos all had a tac, I wouldn't think they skimped on the older autos.

He also mentions revving it to 3.5k, so I'd assume it has one.

i ran into a problem about a year ago i did a auto to manual swap in a da. and the ale hubs in the spindle weher differnet sizes. one had more teeth. the auto axles dont reach with the manual setup. (intermediate shaft instead of one long shaft for auto) my axles kept popping out and i couldnt find one at the part stores that fit. i had to swap the spindles to manual ones and buy new axles. misht b something you should look into

same **** happend to me i drove my car home from a friend car was wobbleing like crazy, it had to be wrong size axle so as soon as i fixed that problem i realized my axles seals are destroyed now i have to replace them before i leak out all my tranny fluid....other then that everything seems to be good actually my car idles, runs and drives alot faster, the other thing i have to fix as of now is ''axle seals, figure out why my 1st to 2nd gets stuck, and new solid motor mounts.

I just figured they didn't have tach's because every auto to manual swap "how to" (or anything like that) always listed manual cluster.

When we replaced the transmission for my car we had the same problem. It came with a busted speed sensor, we took the original off the old transmission, put it in, and we were back in business. Although, I'm not sure what the difference between cable/hydro transmissions are, you should look into the speed sensor.

just an FYI.... when I did the auto to manual swap on my 96, There were two plugs around the speed sensor that were identical in shape, proximity and pin count. I had the wrong one plugged into the speed sensor at first. (My Cluster would not work) I swapped to the other plug and bam..... no CEL and my Speedometer worked. FYI I also swapped to a 5spd ECU.

Why does everyone think that advancing your timing will make it rev faster? If anything, randomly advancing timing will do more damage than good. Hello detonation.

No reason to put anything over 87 octane in a stock ls motor.

With advanced timing? He should be running premium to avoid detonation.

A dizzy that's pushed around which also shouldn't be changed without some form of tuning.

Wait, what? lol I'm saying with his timing being advanced he should be running premium gas. Depending on how far he turned it...
