Default Road noise in a completely stripped CRX

Hey my crx is completely stripped inside. There is no carpet/trim panels etc.

The car is still being built in the shop, and has not seen the road yet.

To anyone else with a completely stripped out CRX - how bad is road noise? I don't mind hearing my b20v purring away (and I removed fire-wall heat-shielding) but is road noise an issue for the ppl with no interior?

Is it still possible to carry on a conversation at say... 70mph? Or is it just a loud rattling chasm which drowns out any attempt at conversation?

thanks. wondering if i should pick up 5 dynamat extreme bulk packs and get to work deadening the entire interior... or spend the 650usd on something like pistons etc instead of adding 180lbs of deadening to the car just for a nicer ride... literally 5 bulk packs is 170lbs+

Well I've had a stripped Crx and a civic hatch. U def. Hear all the rattles u may not have before. It's not to terribly loud, my current civic has no carpet and I didn't notice a huge difference, but u it is a bit louder. Now if u have a loud exhaust already, it's only getting louder haha.

i usually strip out most of the backseat/cargo area stuff and some paneling.
it's always just too loud. so you'd have to get some sound dampening panels or foam to muffle the sound.
i put all my original stuff back into my CRX and installed a new exhaust, so it's kinda quiet now.

150lbs+ is too much weight for comfort.

Lound motor and loud exhaust, here I come.

thanks guys, no sound deadening.

i have had a civic hatch stripped, its fine for a weekend/fun car, but the road noise, boominess and hearing every single thing gets old pretty fast if you are older than about 18 or 19. I had another car (accord wagon) that I stripped all 20 or so lbs of padding and sound deadening material out of, but left seats, headliner, door panels and put carpeting back in and it was fine for me. If I was to do it again with my curent car (89 crx si) i would probably do what I did with the accord, strip the tar off, and put everything back in.

if you do it make sure and weigh everything. i was underwhelmed with how much stuff actually did weigh. i lost a lot more weight tossing ac and heat and the dash than i did with carpet tar and headliners.

Thanks again.

I weighed the factory sound deadening material after using dry ice to chip it all out, and it was a massive 4lbs +/-.

No real weight savings there guys, just fyi.

I've decided to get a plush-cut stockinteriors carpet and call that good enough. The rear of the car will remain stripped out, with a full interior in the front.

The firewall will be the biggest source of noise as I have removed all heat-padding and things under the dash (all vents, climate control, heater-core, fan/blower, ducting etc..)

I should have my b20v in this month and if anyone is curious how loud this setup is, pm me in a few weeks.

After I get sick of all the road noise I will probably remove the carpet, and use dynamat extreme on the entire interior and doors. It's gonna look like a spaceship without the trim panels, completely silver-lined interior. Then I'll have to upgrade pistons/valvetrain etc to make up for the weight-gain of the sound deadening.

thanks again ht.
