Default 06 accord timing belt snapped

a friend told me of an an all stock 06 sedan that he was going to buy but couldnt get money for. body is ok on it same with tires 95k miles but timing belt snapped and i hear that this could mess up the engine? he is asking for 1000 so that makes me sketchy on it because its so cheep and when something seems to good to be true with a car it normally bites me in the ***. just dont want to but something that ends up being more than i can handle and end up taking a loss or having a car sit around forever while i part it out

Assume the car will need a new engine. Is it a V6 or a 4cyl? Either way if the engine is the ONLY thing that needs to be replaced it's a score.

Offer 750, don't pay full price he will let it go.

its 4cyl and how much hould i expect to pay for the new engine? it is the base model i havent gotten a chance to look under the hood i just went from what he told me and what i saw when i looked at it but the shop was closed so i couldnt get in. also how much should i expect for labor to swap the engine? wiring freaks me out so ha trying to pull an ngine out of a parts car to sell it and wiring is just too intimidating.

That motor has a timing chain. The motor is a K20A4 so you can look up prices on ebay, motor swap sites and so on. If you get the same engine it's a direct swap.

that is an extremely rare occurrence... I'd be curious to know what condition the motor was in prior and what was the situation when the belt snapped.

i have no idea what the condition of the engine is now or what it was before. i was just looking into if it was a good idea to buy it since it is so low for an 06. but with a good chance of needing to swap the engine idk if i want to invest that much into an engine and labor. not sure but i will go look at it either sometime over break and try to get some pictures up to give you guys a better idea

The engine has to be torn down to see what damage was done. It's just really rare for a CHAIN to snap or break with 95k. They usually don't need to be replaced until 150k or so. The guides are lubricated by the engine oil, so my guess is that the car was severely neglected with oil changes.

As said, if it ONLY needs an engine you would be able to get this car on the road for about $3,000-$4,000 with the price of the car and engine installed. If you go swapping a bigger motor, then the price goes up. You can't find an 06 for that price unless it had astronomical miles on it.

Shop around but def have someone look into that car, and price a motor and install. You will be hard pressed to find a car like that for that price. Def interested in seeing some pics of the car as well. Enjoy the holdiay

yes 4cyl is k24. 2.4l and the 6 cylinders are 3.0. very rare to see the 4cylinder chain to break. i have seen timing chain stretch and bend valves but no timing chain breaking.
