Where are the RSX Type-Ss???
I don't understand why I haven't come across an RSX at an Auto-X yet?? I don't even see that many on the streets either for that matter. Hell I've seen more Mini Coopers out and about then RSXs. Anyone else see one at an event yet?? How did it do also??
Jeff, we had 3 RSXs at the GIR event this weekend. I think 2 were Type-S cars. All 3 were driven by novices, so how they did isnt relavent.
Heyward Wagner drove a setup Type S at the Brementon event this year. His comments to me in Kansas is that the car could be a viable STS car. Id be weary of the weight and height though, as Per from GRM isnt a big fan of this new Civic/RSX chassis as a STS car.

yeah, i had a perfect view of Adam rolling me coming out of 17 onto front straight at VIR. granted, the driver skill was higher, but it was obvious the car could hold a higher exit speed coming out of the turns which allowed it to rocket past me on the straight. needless to say, my left arm was out the window for a point by as soon as we got into the passing zone

At Nationals two guys (Dean Rindler and Chris Sullivan) showed up in a Yellow RSX-S, which is not a stock color. Turns out they were with HART (Honda Acura Racing Team) from Ohio. HART is at least partly a "factory" team (they get a lot of assistance from Honda/Acura America) The car was painted Spa Yellow (the S2000 color) but had more pearl in it then I have seen on S2Ks. It looked great. Honda should def. sell the RSX in this color.
Anyway, I do not know how experienced the two drivers are and I did not watch their runs. They came in 33rd and 37th out 39 entries. While I do not think this poor performance should reflect negatively on the Type S but without an LSD I think its Type R, WRX and IS300 fodder on the ax course.
I have also competed against several RSX's at regional events but they were all driven by relative novices; mostly on street tires and did not come close to my times.
I think the base RSX might be more competitve in GS than the Type S is in DS. Kinda like the Mini Cooper is better in HS than the Cooper S is in DS.

Adam rolled up on me pretty hard, too. That's a strong car. The only thing I don't like about them is that they come with leather upholstery. I could do without that.
I think the RSX Type S would make a great STS car as well. It has 200hp and 2750lbs to start with. And a simple intake and cat-back have shown to give the TypeS about 15whp on the dyno... I think you could fit some nice 15x7.5" wheels over the typeS' brakes...
Can anyone think of any other STS-eligible car that starts with a better power to weight ratio than the RSX TypeS? (Not that power-to-weight is the most important factor in autoX, but it sure can't hurt to have a good ratio...)

The 2000+ Celica GTS has a better power to weight ratio than the RSX-S, and like the RSX-S it will not be a very good STS car. No way to get any of that power to the road (though stiff rear springs and shocks will help a lot).
The RSX-S has a meatier torque curve which will help it some...
The guys driving the RSX-S at nationals have quite a few years experience, and are decent drivers, the car is just way out classed in DS.
The SCCA needs to move the RSX-S, Celica GTS, and Cooper S to GS. No advantage to all that power if you can't put it to the ground.

The one we did have at the track was owned by a capable driver from NC named Adam, and he sure as hell proved the car was capable, too.
yup nice guy too. We played for a little while at carguys VIR. He is on the board...NC-TypeS or something
I usually don't talk about this but a RSX Type S (satin silver metallic) pulled up to me at the mall the other day. And me being all stickered up I guess was an invite to rev on me
I couldn't pass up the chance and I know I always tell people not to street race.
We both pulled to 45mph (speed limit was 50mph).
Surprisingly enough I pulled on him and kept lead til 45mph by about 1/4 car length.
We got to the next llight and he says "Hey! You were at the autocross last weekend. You're THAT autocross guy". I said "yep"

Adam turned into an awesome driver. It's a shame he can't make more events.
3 VIR full events - 2 Speedtrials, 1 CarGuys
1 CMP - NASA-VA
1 Roebling Road - Porsche Owners Club (great group of guys BTW)
I just came back from a vacation in Europe (Oktoberfest in Munich Germany is HIGHLY recommended -
), so I'm a little tapped on the disposable cash for track events this year.I just inquired with the Audi Quattro Club about their VIR North/Full weekend in December (7th and 8th, I think), which would probably be my next event. I hope to see you guys out there for that event.
Travel for work will keep me busy through most of October/November, otherwise I'd be on-track more often this Fall.

I'm surprised I don't see any either. Being in So Cal, I figured there would be alot of them. I don't see any new Civic "minivan" SI's either. Maybe autocross people are a bit nervous about how the new strut type of suspension will work in competition. I'm sure in time that their will be a bunch of them at the track.
Locally we got a whole bunch of them autocrossing but all the drivers are in their first year of driving and running STS (same as the WRX guys). I would like to see someone prep one to SP rules and put a good driver in one

there must be something in the water over there at Hendrick or some Kris-trance-thing that gets guys named Adam to take out brand new cars to the track
RSX-S would make an ok autox car, but will never be a class leader in either DS or STS. Too heavy. Power-to-weight really isn't that big of a deal in an auto situation when you are limited by tire size and drivetrain limitations (read: FWD).

I know they were selling every Type-S they brought in, so I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen more than just my car and Dave Skultety's SCCA SSB car on-track.

"I think others are just afraid of running a brand new car."
I autocrossed mine at 500, 900, 1000, 1100, 1700 miles . . . should I go on ...
I think people feel that the cars are not competative enough without aftermarket support.
I decied to stay in the stock class (2k2 SI in GS.)

most RSX-S's in our area are driven by Stunnas
Only two have come out to autox, one was even driven by a dude that was an Acura Salesman! And he did very well in the RSX-S, I was quite impressed
