Icon6 My Racing Hart 3 piece Rebuild thread!!

Well I have been trolling around on Honda-Tech for a short while but figured I would post one of my projects on here.

*** Don't go trying what I did on yours and blaming me if they don't come out right, this was my first time doing this so I'm learning as I go. However I have common sense(not much AT ALL lol) and I RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH****

With that said any constructive criticism (especially advice) is welcomed but no dick head comments, that's why i posted on here rather than other forums, this community seems to want to help each other not bash.

I bought some 3 piece Racing Hart Type C rims about two months ago.

Specs:

16x7 4x100 38mm offset.

Pic with old rims:

Like the look of them but hated the fact that they were 17's; plus with 350 whp I would like some more meat to aid in traction.

Pic with the Racing Hart rims:

Okay so I bought these rims at a damn good price 500 bucks but they needed some work. I wanted to change the look of the car so I figured these "shoes" will do the trick but being as **** (and budgeted) as I am I figured I would rebuild these rims and put my own finesse in to them.

First thing first I went to a local tire place and had them remove all the tires and I gave these rims a scrub in my tub!

But before I did that I had to take the rims apart; I googled tons videos of people banging the rims with mallets and **** just to break the silicone bead but I found an easier and less damaging method:

I just used the box cutter along the seal of the silicone and He-maned them apart, no banging or using two by fours.

I also used the box cutter to remove some of the excess silicone as shown in the pics.

Now time for a bath, this is what they looked like before caked with dirt and grime:

Now here some pics with a wash to get the initial dirt off so I can begin sanding down these bad boys and keep them in the house w/o my girlfriend getting too pissy about the mess.

Clean pic time:

Not spotless by no means but clean enough for the living room

some more pics

The 3 piece shots:

Moving alone, removing the paint off of the rims was probably the most frustrating and time consuming part so far. I mean this paint that was on there was thick as the *** bouncing in a strip club.

DO NOT use anything BUT AIRCRAFT REMOVER!!! I tried some other **** and just wasted my money and time. If someone has used something other than what I have below feel free to chime in... I hated, HATED this part

This is what I used (the can stuff didn't seem as potent):

List of recommendations:

Latex gloves...lots
either a metal or plastic scrapper tool
towels or cardboard to use under the mess

Sorry I don't have any pics of this process but I don't even want to remember this step. Wasn't hard at all, more so annoying!!!

Well I still haven't decided what I'm going to do with my face but I know I'm keeping the lips polished.

Here are some pics of the lips that I get to sand by HAND; and unfortunately for me, this one was a decent one.

So here is one of the lips i have sanded down by HAND using sandpaper 180 grit(again this was only for the rough spots and it was done with EXTREME care).

I don't know wtf they were doing with these rims but these gashes were so bad I didn't want to take off that much material.

And this brings me up-to-date so far, hope you enjoy the thread and please any advice is welcomed!

I still have one more lip to do, figure out what to do with the barrel, the face and of course... assembly!!!
