02 accord pcm swap?
hey guys the spedometer in my friends 02 accord stopped working. I determined the pcm got shorted when he did his stereo install. The question I have in will a pcm swap work or will it have to be re calibrated? The car is an 02 accord V6 auto. Im in canada and the only accords my wrecker has is 2 V6 accord coupes. Will the pcm from a 98-02 accord coupe v6 work in a 02 accord 4 door V6? I just want to make sure before I go mucking about, I've done pcm swaps in the past on different makes but never on a honda and I don't know if they are specific. Thanks for any info.
They have an immobilizer chip installed in each ECU. Therefore you would have to flash the new ECU to match his ignition/key chip. As long as the engine and transmission are the same you can use an ECU from ether a 2dr or 4dr. 98-02.
I think there are some towing companies that have access to the scanners/programmers these days. It used to be a dealer only thing for a long time. As for how much, I'm not 100%. You would have to call around to your local shops to find out costs. Try towing companies, maybe even a lock smith and your local Honda/Acura dealership.
