So my buddy has a 91 accord and is having problems with it. He says it jerks when you accelerate and sometimes it wont speed up fast it'll whine while it accelerates. And when the engine light comes up he says it runs fine.. any thoughts? Please help.

 

When the check engine light comes on retrieve the stored codes from the ECU. There is a self diagnosis procedure that can be done very easily. All it requires is a paper clip to short the SCS connector.

When the CEL comes on, your "buddy" should take a paperclip and jump the service connector in the passenger side kickpanel. Count the flashes, long flashes are 10, short flashes are 1, long pauses are breaks between codes, once the "list" of codes is done, they will repeat.

My best guess as to what the issue is? Probably EGR or Oxygen sensor. You can check if its the o2 sensor causing it by simply unplugging it, if it runs great, replace the o2 sensor.
