Civic - makes noise when cold
Got a 99 lx stock y7 with a new ish timing belt/water pump and all accessory belts changed within the last 6 months that is acting weird.
A month ago, it was in the 50's and everything was fine. Today is was in the 20's and I have been noticing she keeps getting a bit louder and louder. The sound almost sounds like a low rattle, possibly an exhaust shield slightly vibrating, however the sound seems to be coming from the location near the belts on the engine. (driver side)
I am curious, is this cold related. It seems to be at its worst when we are at our coldest temperature. It is just simply, cold? The sound is hard to explain. Its not a belt screech (they are new anyhow) Its more a low noise....not high pitched. Lets say it sounds like a jar of packed BB's with not much room in it. Like perhaps a heat shield on the exhaust was just barely moving.....its just slightly there...but as far as I can tell its a metal on metal sound.
Any ideas on my vague description? Do anyone else notice a "noise" when their civics are cold? If need be Ill video tape it tomorrow to get a real answer. I for some reason sorta thought my harmonic balancer was going bad, however Im not sure why....seeing as the fact I dont know what they sound like when going bad, lol.
Today it was brutally cold so I couldnt investigate the noise. Ive been noticing it for a few weeks, but its just been too cold to monkey with it. Ill get a video tomorrow, so Im just looking for ideas now.
Thanks, for any advice on where to look is greatly appreciated.

Mine had it, heat shielding on the top of the bottom of the down pipe. Try taking that off if its loose. Mine was corroded and nasty so I cut/pryed it off.
Um, my belt tensioner squeaks under heavy load. Makes me just beat the bitch harder, hear her squeal. Lol. I got a Z6 all forged with a custom turbo kit in the works with rebuilt tranny so I am not worried.
But yeah, I would try the heat shield!
Good Luck
