Well, I've got a 1994 Honda Accord. A few months ago when I was out in town, the power steering started to make this weird whining noise, an odd smell then it stopped working. Steering the car is... difficult, especially when it's not moving. I brought it to my mechanic and he told me I need a new steering rack and quoted me $700 for the fix. I don't drive the car much anymore, only once a week, it sits mostly. I lifted up the hood a few days ago and noticed the fluid reservoir was empty, did some research and suspect it may just be a leak in a hose somewhere.

So I went back into town tonight, got a few bottles of power steering fluid and put two in. The steering came back, followed by the exact same whining noise and all of the fluid leaked out into my driveway but not only that, it shot out of my driveway into the street, not much just a spattering of dots. I'm guessing the pump works

I'm probably going to bring it to a different mechanic and ask him to find the leak and if it can be replaced/fixed on the cheap. I came here because you gentlemen know pretty much everything and I could really use your knowledge right now. Thanks guys, happy holidays!

 

Bump. Need some opinions.

 

Check your hoses and seals for cracks/leaks and replace them accordingly. Hard to diagnose a leak without pictures or actually seeing the car in action.

 

Sounds like there's a leak from the high pressure side. Where is it leaking from?
