Hi, I've been Road Racing in SCCA (Class: ITR/ITS) for many many years. I'm good friends with a lot of the Spec Miata guys, the spec tire for spec Miata is the Toyo RA1. All in all the Toyo RA1 is a pretty good tire, I run them on my BMW street car. What's interesting is that the Nitto NT01 is the same tire. Both the RA1 & NT01 are constructed at the same plant, using all the same materials & compound. The only two differences is the tread pattern and the fact that the NT01 is molded to 6/32", the RA1 is molded to 8/32". That's it. If you really want to learn about it, just look up any Mazda Miata racing forum; there should be tons of info on the Toyo RA1. Which as I said, is the same tire.

The NT01 is a D.O.T.-compliant dry competition radial designed with the weekend road racer in mind. The compound was developed to provide the best balance of traction, consistency, heat cycle performance and longevity. The NT01 delivers fast and consistent lap times for both the professional road-racer and the track-day enthusiast.

The NT01 is recommended for dry competition use.
