switching honda maps with pin d2/brake switch

switching honda maps with pin d2/brake switch
sorry for the really newb questions just confused
i want to run a "toggle" style switch to switch maps on my s300. pin d2 is a 12v pin so i cut the wire and run a wire from my toggle switch to the pin then toggle switch to ground? also how does hondata know that i flipped the toggle switch. is it designed to read the difference or is there another step im missing?
