Default 1990 civic std project

iv copied and pasted this stuff from a different forum, figured id put it on honda-tech since i stopped coming on here as often and recently started again.

bored, decided to make a build thread. super excited about this car. its going to be the car i never got to build in toronto and recently moved to Edmonton Alberta. picked this thing up from a guy whos son owned it. said something about the sun replacing the cam shaft and cam gear and could never get it started again. the fact that the timing belt was looser than(insert funny loose thing here) im guessing that had something to do with it and im guessing all the valves were bent. got it for $500 plus $75 for the guy to tow it to my place about 65kms.

favorite part.. now im trying to figure out what model this is because i always thought the STD only came with a 4 speed but according to my VIN its an LX with the 8th digit being a 3. any help would be great

yesterday
removed some of the interior, seats etc and the bra. no rust under the bra was a treat. more pictures to come today.

Money shot.

All lower interior out. Still have to do the pillars and head liner. Found no rust under the carpet. My girl friend hates this car even more every time I take stuff out.

Did have a best of some sort though.

Picked up an integra rear disc swap for $60. Needs bushings, calipers, rotors but the cables are good.

ORiginal.

Also got a truck for a daily/winter beater so now I can drive to Calgary to get an engine instead of paying over 600 for shipping.

small update. been busy with work and fixing my truck putting a thermostat in and it also needs intake gaskets but im really lazy.

today i took all the a/c stuff out, condenser, lines, compressor( to make it easier to take the engine out. ).
also removed the intake so i could get at the plugs under it and move the wiring harness out of the way. also took out all the necessary things to remove the engine, speedo cable, clutch cable, throttle cable bla bla bla.

so iv been thinking about what to put in its place and im probably going to go the easy route and do a first gen b16 and cable transmission. im not looking for a fast car but something fun to drive, would like to take it to the track next summer or the one after. not going hella flush with this, functional with some style. really hard to find any parts at all in edmonton so most parts will have to be new.

if any one has suggestions with which engine i should put in it let me know. im open to options im just not looking to spend hours or days getting it running. im going to have to do a mpfi swap first which i have done before a couple times. i wouldnt mind going obd1 but i havent researched about it that much yet. links to any good info would be great.

So I took a break and still wanted to work on it a bit. Removed bitch pin and linkage. Jacked the front up took wheels off and soaked every bolt with wd40. Took a few more things out of the engine bay. Think I should go with a bigger front brake.

got bored waiting for the girlfriend to arrive from work. i love being done work at 4-4:30 everyday.
removed dash, steering column and head lights in preparation for the si interior to come on saturday. unfortunately i probably will not have any time at all to install the new interior unless the girlfriend decides it ok.

so i arrived at this guys house about 20 minutes before it started getting dark, so i ended up removing all this stuff in the dark in a couple hours with my iphone light guiding me. it really sucked, but im very happy with the condition.

here are some pictures of some of the stuff i got last night. its all really dirty and im going to have to steam clean the seats. im really surprised at the condition the seats are actually in. a lot better shape then the ones i had in my sedan.

si front seats with the si steering column. think i'll just try and find some bolts that will work with the ignition cylinder instead of getting the oem break away bolts.

going to have to find speaker covers at the junk yard. one was missing and i was in a rush and couldnt fully open the door to remove the other one so i broke it. probably a bad idea but oh well.

black dash on the roof

misc stuff, speaker pods, thought that was a good find.

got excited so i decided to test fit the dash and a seat.

tonight i removed the vin from my old dash and installed it on the new one. as i was doing it i was thinking to my self that i have to make sure i put it on the correct way. well im pretty sure i didnt. haha. oh well, dont think it matters that much. installed the dash back into the car, along with the door cards, si steering column. had to remove my ignition cylinder and install it on to the si one. i just re used the break away bolts by using a punch and hammer.

also got some misc stuff from the same parts car. front sway bar, throttle cable and hatch struts.

update:
replaced the wiper switch without taking the column out, was pretty happy about that. i was really curious to see if all the electrical still works in the car so i hooked a battery up to it and nothing. so i put the grounds back and connected the main engine harness, and all i get are head lights, no rear lights no cluster lights, and the dome light works fine. so thats got me a little worried. im sure it has to do with the harness not being hooked up to the starter or alternator and the grounds are bad.

anyways, went to work today and made 2.3 hours for a 5 hour day. brought my rear disc swap with me just in case i had some time to take them apart. started with one side and of course the upper and lower control arm bolts were seized into the bushings. so i spent a while cutting them out and heating up some stuff to remove the rest of the bolts. also removed the pins for the e brake cables to the calipers so i can replace the calipers. after an hour on one side i was tired but curious to see how the other side would be so i put the gun on the lower control arm bolt on the other side and it came out, same with the upper. so i managed to get everything els off the other side as well.

going to start removing the rear brakes on the civic next weekend, need to buy some axle stands to get it off the ground first. then im going to have to start buying things. not sure if i should go with oem trailing arm bushings or just get ES bushings. also gonna get some rear camber arms, lower control arms and new bushings for the toe arms( heres to hoping the rear toe arm bolts arent seized). as for the front suspension, im almost certain im going to go with da kunckles, i dont want to slam this car so i should be fine

Removed the front suspension like a week or two ago from both sides.

Std front suspension ready for the scrap metal bin at work. Going to replace the front lower control arm bushings. Probably not putting a traction bar in till next year.

bought a couple more axle stands to start the rear suspension. told my fiance i was going to just put the rear on the stands and take the wheels off..i couldnt resist doing more though.

once again, i have to say i love alberta.. no bolts were seized, not even the toe arm bolt. i was so happy.
unfortunately i did find a hole the rear of the rocker panel on the right side. not a big deal, i'll be taking this to a body shop once im done to get it painted and remove rust.

Sounds like a solid plan, im having a hard time trying to find body panels. I dont know about you but the salvage yards around me are scarce when it comes to EF's...

small update. had some time before the fiance got home from work so i worked on removing the rear suspension on the other side. also removed the master cylinder and booster in preparation for a DA booster and MC. had a source for ef si front discs but they no longer have any so im 100% going da front disc swap now.
note to self: remove and install booster when dash and steering column are not in car.

my first big purchase arrived about 5 minutes ago while i was taking a **** at 6:30pm.

they werent lying about some trimming required. no holes for anything. unfortunately im gone for two day for a course in red deer so this will have to wait till saturday to be put in. letting it sit inside till then, gotta find a place where the cat and dog cant touch it.
purchased from www.stockinteriors.com

today i went to the junk yard and found a couple si's. unfortunately both had horrible interiors, one had blue rear panels. but i managed to get some things i needed. didnt notice that one front seat belt was blue until i got home. found another guy on a local forum that has some si interior parts but hes taking for ever to reply.

cleaned the interior finally. and just testing the center console.

that was a mouse nest with mouse ****. the mouse actually made its way to my fiances 1.6el trunk and started eating it. we put a mouse trap in her trunk and got the little guy. the car sat in a barn for a year or so.

so iv decided to just paint the interior i have now all black. im never going to find any thing at a junk yard in decent condition and i have all the pieces to go into the car now so im just going to paint them all black along with the dash and door panels. just need some opinions on if i should keep that grey line on the top of the dash and top of the door panels for some contrast?
