Default Custom air intake question!!

1994 Del Sol SI
I just ordered a 68mm Throttle Body/Intake Manifold. My AEM intake is 62mm. I have a 68mm tube from another aftermarket intake buts its been cut and its only half the length of what I need.

The question...
If I cut the AEM tube (62mm) and hook that up to the thicker tube (68mm), will that create more power? I know it would be really small gains if any, but in theory, would that be better? Cuz it just makes sense to me to port match the intake tubing with the TB and IM. And I guess in my mind I see the air starting off with better velocity in the beginning of the intake and then flowing more freely once the pipe gets larger half way through.

Thoughts?

Don't think any power gains should be expected doing that...you will for sure not feel it "seat of the pants"

Yeah I know I certainly wouldn't feel it. Maybe it would help a little after more intense modifications? Also, I'm thinking it will make a more aggressive sound too. I couldn't lose power, could I?

Yea..maybe a bit more of a sound...If you have the money just get a nice new one to properly fit or just get a cheap pipe from ebay and slap your filter on that bad boy!!! Don't think you would lose power though...prob just be around the same either way. Nothing a dyno or you would ever notice.

thats the thing about the filter. Its a good AEM filter. But it won't fit on anything bigger than a 62mm, so I need that pipe.. And I dont wanna use a cheap ebay filter...

Well...if you have a the bread...just buy a good new one. Usually I don't really care what brand the filter is...to me a regular cone filter is a filter...haha...but I mean you could get a ebay or autozone filter just change it when it starts getting a little dirty....you'll be okay.

IMO, you are only as free-flowing as your most restrictive piece.
