Default cat converter is gone, any replacements?

are there any other hondas/acuras cat converters that would fit an OBD2 integra (96)?
my cat has cracks all over it, and blew out today
it sounds like i have no exhaust and its just coming straight out of the headers

i'm assuming that perhaps i could use a 96-00 civic cat? i'm asking because my local junkyard doesn't have any tegs in stock right now

and my cat back exhaust is also shot as well, cracks in the welds, and rattling like crazy
since the 92-95 civic coupes and integras are similar would a cat back exhaust from that civic fit?

I don't think it's legal for anyone to sell a used cat - so you'd have to find one in a non-commercial setting.. perhaps craigslist. Even then, if your goal is for it to work at all (e.g. pass emissions) it's a risky bet.

You just looking for something to fill the space, or ?

damn, not legal to sell huh...? guess ill look on CL then
And i dont have to worry about smog, no testing where i am
and yes
i'm sort of looking for something to fill the space, but a test pipe is out of the question, i'm running a fairly stock car, and i dont want any extra noise.
And i've heard that the exhaust smells nasty without being scrubbed by the cat

and how much would it cost to get the cat rewelded? im thinking it just blew a weld out. I haven't looked yet though, going to do that tonight

edit: just looked at it, and the whole cat is broken off from the header. The tube that connects the header to the body of the cat is broken off at the cat body.
So right now my exhaust is hanging on by the hangers
anyone know what that will cost? i can remove the cat and take it into the shop by itself, so they dont have to do anything

Should be able to get it welded cheaply enough. I had to have some custom work done to fit a 97+ JDM ITR exhaust onto a 96 GSR... Guessing you could get a single weld done for $20 or less. They like happy customers who come back for more.

I am putting my cat back on my fabbed test pipe. My car is just a bit too loud for commuting to work past State Troopers

hey i have a NEW CAT with less than 200 miles on it, i welded it inline with my stainless steel test pipe just so i could pass inspection in the begging of summer... This is an aftermarket cat i paid 100 bucks for with less than 200 miles. It has two flanges on both sides i believe its 2 1/4... lmk if u want to buy it ill take 50 bucks shipped. why is it illegal to sell a used cat i DK

It is perfectly legal to sell a used cat...provided it's been EPA-certified. A legal used OE cat will have an EPA number on it that begins with "U". A new aftermarket cat will have an "N" in the same place.

Excerpt from the relevant EPA document:
Required labels on the converters will have a series of letters and numbers and be in the following format:

N/XX/YYYY/ZZZZ for new ones
U/XX/YYYY/ZZZZ for used

where N - indicates a new converter
U - indicates a used converter

XX - is the manufacturer's code issued by EPA

YYYY - is usually a numerical designation of the vehicle application or
part number

ZZZZ - is the month and year of manufacture (i.e., "0187" for January 1987)

Note: Converters manufactured for sale in California may have the letters "CA" in place of the "N" or "U". Since California standards are more stringent than EPA's, these converters will also meet EPA requirements.

the problem is you won't find used cats at the yard, the scrappers buy them for platinum, they also destroy the pipes they are attached to instead of removing the flanges

Undoubtedly true. But the point is that, in the right circumstances, used cats ARE legal.

right, if it's the original cat and it passes emissions if required in your area, I don't see why it wouldn't be legal, of course if it's Cali the laws make no sense, that's all a racket there, even if you buy an exact converter you have to pay someone else to put it in, which has to pay the state fees, complete BS
