Default JDM ITR tranny vs mechanical LSD and final drive

Any experiencd opinions welcome. I have a k20 swapped EG I am setting up for HPDE and then h1 when it's further along. The car has no LSD and I understand a better final drive is needed. The engine/tranny is from a 2003 RSX-S with approx. 35k on it.

So I think a final drive and LSD (wavetrac or Mfactory ) would be equal BUDGET wise to buying a JDM ITR tranny that has both. Any opinion on which way to go?

Experience is your key word.
What is your experience level? By knowing this it will help us better advise you.
If you havent much experience Id say you're ahead of the game and wasting money and time.
You dont need a lsd or a aftermarket FD if you are still learning.
You can drive the car the way it is now in hpde, learn alot more, and get more track/seat time than to put the "go fast" parts on and not learn to drive the car properly.
So before I throw in my .02 I think it best to wait and find out your experience level.
Setting a car up for hpde is kind of a moot point if you are just starting out and learning.

There is something to be said for having no LSD and doing one-wheel burnouts out of each corner. You'll look really fast!

Have you ever tracked before, or have you ever tracked this car before? I would put it on the track at least once before you decided what changes to make. It was a huge eye opener for me a two years ago. I changed my "wish" list drastically. And lets just say I have not added any "go faster in a straight line" parts since.

Sure. Sorry. 10 years HPDE. 6 tracks including daytona. Now instructing with hooked on driving for 2 years, 6 endurances races with chumpcar. Previous track cars- e36 m3 stock, then track set up, mini JCW, s2000

really want to get going with more wheel to wheel racing. Will do TT and look for endurance events untilcar is ready for H1. Would rather do H2 with my limited budget but reading NASA rules I interpret that my k20 EG is strictly h1

I have an s2000 that has coilovers and R compound tires but put street tires back on and bought the kswap civic specifically to build for Honda challenge. Had the car out twice, very entertaining but the "one wheel burnout" part sucks. I have a cage builder that will be supplementing my autopower and am getting suspension in order. So besides the suspension advice I have found on this thread I am at this point with the tranny decision and clutch is pretty worn.

Just as Dirty 19 stated...Go for broke! First on the list are going to be a clutch type LSD. The M-Factory gear diff will be better than an open diff but will not suffice for road racing as much as a clutch type would. Wouldn't go that route. The Wavetracs are better since they are tunable and just a matter of changing the friction disk to suite your needs. If you want the ultimate than a Kaaz or Cusco type diff will be your best bet.
Final drive is going to take you to the next level. Use a gear ratio calculator and play with the different ratio options to see what is going to work best with the tracks that you normally frequent. Gear-X is all we use! Excellent products and race proven!

....or as Lo-Buck stated...profit to do the same exact things in H-2 form and still have a few bucks left

Figured the aftermarket would be better. Another question- I know Kaaz is popular with lots of the folks here as I have read on the searches. What kind of time does one average before needing rebuild? I was thinking mechanical/helical for longevity simplicity. But if clutch type is the way I will do it. . I will drive the car to/from track for now. No tow vehicle or trailer space at home. And I do live in Florida.....we can drive Anything on the street.

I give my self a 5 on a scale of 1-10 for wrenching skills. Want to do more but- limited tools/work space. 2 small hungry kids following me around the house. Will a Kaaz go a full season typically? What does a rebuild cost?

Thanks for the advice!

Check out this thread. It's what you're looking for. I posted my experience with lsd's on there.

I was wondering as I made my way down the thread when someone was going to mention OSG. I also have one mated to my k24 and it's been nothing short of impressive. You get what you pay for with this lsd.

I like my kaaz but I haven't tried the os unit and my car rarely stays together long enough to wear it out.

For the final drive i'd record what mph you are reaching say on a back straight then use something like the mfactory gear calculator to determine the right fd.
