Ordering and engine soon - Need help deciding where to order from!
Whats up fellas? I will be ordering a motor for my 93 hatch here in about a week. Last time I ordered and engine it was from HMOTORSONLINE - and it was a great motor...clean-no leaks-ran great-etc.
However, I went on their site the other day and noticed that they have went up on their prices on the b16 - (before anyone bashes me about the 1.6 - I am just doing a simple set up with a turbo planning on around 250ish WHP) - These engines used to be 2250 for complete change and now are 2450 for the complete change!!! I have looked around and found a site "tiger japanese" - has anyone ever dealt with these guys or know anyone who has?? They are offering the complete engine/trans for 2195! Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
THANKS!

Hmo or just send me the cash so I can put it to good use since you are going to get scammed out of it anyway.
So what if HMO bumped their price. You have experienced with them before and you were happy, no? You know that their motors are good so why go somewhere else that you have no idea what you're going to get? HMO is the only place Ill get my motors from..

Well I have only got one motor from them...so I cant say the next will be good... I mean its a bit aggravating that they went up...I don't get why...not like these engines are getting newer. Maybe I will just call and talk to them and see whats up?? But I mean is HMO really the ONLY place to get good motors from??
Because that is an extra 200 I can put in my turbo set up! LOL...I am a slight cheap-O!!! Just trying to get a decent set up with decent power for the best price possible!
I still wonder why poeple are brain washed with the B16.. that thing is nothing but a noise maker.
If your looking for power, then a 1.8 or 2.0l is the way to go.
Marc, i think he was going to put that 200 towards a kit.. we all know about ebay garbage ( i hope we all know
)

The price increase is most likely from the increase in oil costs. They have to ship the motors over on a boat and all shipping costs have gone up. The fact that it is getting harder to get a clean, low mileage and good condition B series my play a role as well. Lets face it our loved B series is a discontinued and ageing motor. Oh and B16s are great for boost but I would never try to make NA power with one, for that give me a B18 or B20 short block.
I bought my front end JDM changeover from hmotorsonline and was really pleased with their service and the packing. Not a motor, but I'd pay a little more for a reputable company with outstanding Customer service. You usually get what you pay for in the end...

Well, let's see...
Inflation. Everything costs more now than it did a few years ago if you haven't noticed. Well maybe not everything, real estate is down.
Also, like mentioned above, although the motors are getting older, their value remains up/rises because clean examples become more rare.
I would go with hmotors, hands down best reputation in the business.

)Read my OP....I am only looking to achieve around 250whp...and my last all motor b16 with IHE and clutch beat a few GSRs with same mods...maybe it was just driver error or something...but I still think people are brainwashed with the gsr...b16s are good for a conservative turbo set up ...I mean if your going for BIG HP/TORQUE numbers then yea...but I am looking for a simple set up
And I have had a couple buddies with ebay kits with brand name manifolds and have lasted awhile...and if the turbo fails...what is to buy another ebay turbo for 80bucks...?? will prob go with a decent kit...not ebay...but not top of the line either. Right now I am just focused on getting the motor...

And I don't have the time/money to build LSV or B20V...I guess I could go with a 1.8 nonvtec...but I believe the vtec engines are more reliable. Anyways...I orderd my last motor from there only like 2 years ago...and from what I remember oil prices were the around the same. But I dunno...I will give HMO a call and talk to them...maybe since I am a previous customer I can haggle them down a 100 or so bucks...hahaa...but anyways...thanks for all the replies!!!

Just to let you guys know I talked to HMO and asked some questions about why their price went up and all that! I let them know that none of the other competitors have went up and as well let them know that I was a previous customer. They ended up telling me that they will give me a 100 dollar discount since I was a previous customer! And since these guys are said to be the best and my last motor and service was fantastic....looks like I will be buying from them again! So if any of you guys ever order from these guys and you have bought a motor from there, just mention that and you will receive a discount!!
Thanks!
Thanks!
