Default Crx cluster in my 89 DX hatch?

I bought a cluster with a tach today from the junkyard, when I got home to install, i noticed a blue plug on the back of the cluster but no blue plug in my car. I plugged in the cluster anyways and the tach, temp and fuel gauges don't work. Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

I've gotten two clusters like that from the junkyard. One was for a manual and the other was for a auto. The manual one I bought worked on my friends EF so I traded him for a "like new" dash. I'm thinking his was a SI model....I'm interested to see what the answer is, because I got the auto one with the same female plug that I dont have on my car now. I'm gonna search real quick since you've reminded me. I'll post if I find anything.

It is the rectangular one, it came out of an 89 CRX, fits perfectly just no tach temp or fuel and the CEL is on on this cluster but not my stock one

In my experience I've never seen rounded plugs.....they've all been long rectangles like my 90 DX. The only difference I've noticed is the blue plug

The 90-91 cluster are more round on the top corner than the 88-89 ones

hhhmmm, maybe I just never paid attention that well then. Still can't figure out what that blue plug does or what it came in. People talk about it but they never say anything besides asking.

Is your old cluster bad? Are you only swapping for a tach? If that's so you can just do what I did and hook a external tach gauge up......that's how I solved my problem.

the only way to find out is to get another cluster if you got warranty on the
cluster go change it for another on or buy another cluster and get warranty on it so u can return one of the ones you already bought and get store credit
so you can get other parts and just be wasting money

My old cluster is fine, I was swapping for tach. I Have an external tach on there but it looks Ricey and that is never cool in a Honda.

If you got it from a junkyard you should be able to take it back within thirty days but I will tell you that my first cluster I bought from the junkyard with a tach worked for my friend but when I installed it on mine the tach and I think the fuel gauge didn't work. That was just my experience, no idea what condition yours is in.
