91 Hatch Stock DX Problem
Hello all, I was driving my Civic the other night on 4th Gear and it started spurtering and then turned off. It will not turn back on when I turn the key, just turns but doesn't crank. . . if anyone has an idea of what went wrong, it will greatly be appreciated.
PS. It isn't the fuel pump because I had someone check it and he said it was good because it turned on when the key was turned to position two on the ignition.
Thanks

Good idea checking the fuel pump. That would have been my first suggestion. It could still be fuel pressure, though. Have you tried testing this? The quick (and dangerous) way to do it is to loosen the "in" line on the fuel filter and priming the lines (key to "on"). It should spray out.
Have you done a spark test?

Thats not even close how you test fuel pressure. You can tell the spray difference between 10 psi and 40 psi - but it takes a lot of experience and even then it's a crap shoot.
OP - I am not sure what you mean exactly by "it turns but doesn't crank"?
Key in start position and starter is engaged and spinning = cranking, turning over, spinning, ect...
Key in run position and engine running = (as much as it pains me to say these) running, started, turned on, (I HATE this) "catching", ect...
I would start by pulling off your distributor cap and checking the rotor. These engines are notorious for the screw backing out of the rotor and tearing stuff up inside the distributor. It's an easy check - three screws and it comes off.

do like stated above and pull the line, prime the pump and see if it quirts out.
then you know your getting fuel.
then check to see if the dizzy is firing.
all spark to all 4 cyl.
then check your starter and ignition components.

Ok, I did not have time to do anything to it today because it is at my brother's house, and I was busy working today. . . but I will be trying all of what you guys' suggested. Thanks!
I'd put my money on the coil or igniter, most likely igniter...these are notorious for going bad in the EF chassis.Im on my 4th EF hatch and owned 3 CRX's so I've replaced my fair share of them.
Hell right! You may want to do a compression test now though. It's possible that some valves were bent from piston to valve contact when the timing belt let go in 4th gear.
