Default Dare I install this part?

Ok, my catalytic converter currently is some X brand (possibly catco? not sure) and at 2400 rpm to about 4800 rpm, my exhaust rattles like ****. I cna't stand it because most of my driving is done in that rpm range, but it only rattles if i accelerate, even the slightest bit.

So, i ordered a 2.5" test pipe from test pipe of modesto ( testpipe.com ). Should i install this or will i notice a lack in power cuz if the dc 4-1 header, then a 2.5" catback, then whatever piping the greddy evo is?

thanks for your help guys,
Ryan

P.S. I am getting a drag turbo kit in about 4-6 weeks if that helps.

You will gain power. You should have stuck to a high flow cat...we will all die because of you.

Next time you see a school bus, 18 wheeler, any muscle car, or any car prior to 1974, tell the driver that.

I'm sure we'll all live till we're 90+ years old; asthma and resperatory problem free

im doin it, back in 20 min

the rattle is probally from the heat shield on the cat, you can just rip that off

Bike Boy's right, its probably the heat shields. I would rip them off, you won't be hurting anything. FYI a high flow cat keeps your car emissions-happy with similar power gains.

My brother has a 91 Crx SI. he had the same problem w/ the heat shield so he put some "hoops" on it to tighten it up. you can get em at any hardware store. just incase anyone else had that problem and didnt wanna take to heat shield off for some reason.

Exhaust job in 20 min? I don't think so. 20 min per bolt if you don't break them maybe

i got the bolts off in like 8 minutes. I looked at the test pipe and i see a bung for an o2 sensor... what the hell is that ****?! so i hauled my *** down to home depot to find out they do not carry a bolt in metric sizing higher than 16mm... so i had to goto Ace hardware, they were closed, back to home depot, got some metric ****, just half *** rigged that bung closed. Got back to my house... took me about 30 min to get those front two bolts ON because the flange on the test pipe was being a terd so i had to bend it a little bit... got those on, last 3 went on in 2 seconds.

while the cat was off, i ripped all heat shielding off my car.

final verdict: STILL RATTLES, so i take my axle back off, start it up... IT's loud as ****... i mean LOUD... i rev it up... got it to like 3k-3.3k before it got so loud im sure my parents or my neighbors would come out bitching... but there was no rattle.

Im thinking a baffold (sp?) in my muffler is lose or something... maybe a new exhaust would solve this. Jesus... im runnin out of money... no turbo for me

P.S. found out that my cat was infact a race cat. But the previous owner (who had cat-back + cat on there) ****** hollowed out the race cat...

Did you get all the heat shields? There are four, two on the exhaust and two enclosing the header. If the noise is still there, especially if it worsens as the car warms up, I would check the header for cracks. That was my problem and I got it replaced under warranty.

my header is a DC 4-1

There are 2 indents on the bottom where i bottomed out on a speed bump at my school But the noise was still there before that happend. I'm going to have my dad or someone rev the motor while im around these possible leak areas so i can pinpoint where i hear the hissing/rattling from

I just don't justify the gains you get from it. Carsound high flow cats flow almost as good.

if you havnt gone to great measures with it yet...i would also suggest puttin a cat on...especailly if you dont like your car bein super super loud...i dont like my testpipe from them at all...im gettin rid of it as soon as i can find a 12inch high flow cat

yeah, this thing was a bitch to install... i had to bend the god damn flanges over that flare thingey so the bolts would reach through... etc etc.

I ordered the test pipe on thursday, came here on monday.

I found a dude who wrecked his integra and he's parting it out... im gonna buy his cat from him and see what that will do for my rattling

P.S. the lady who answered the phone at test pipe, i could barely understand. She was speaking english but i swear to god it sounded like japanese... took like 30 min for her to comprehend how to spell my name. Oh well...

thanks man.

If that doesn't solve it, what muffler should i get to replace the evo one... im keeping the current piping (evo piping) until i go turbo. Then i'm ditching my entire **** system for a thermal R&D 3"

god it just seems like my money keeps being spent on stupid **** recently haha, that face is pretty hard-core
