Icon2 fuel pressure issues

i know this post is probably around but to lazy to look so if anybody wants to help thank u. Well I have a 89 civic sedan converted to obd1 with p06 chipped on crome. Also have basic bolt ons as cai/headers/walboro255 and fuel regulator all of this on a d15. my problem is that if i put the fuel pressure gauge @ 40psi the car will not run, rough idle and sputter when rev, but if i but it @ 60-70psi the car runs great and pulls hard. Anybody have any ideas to whats going on. thank u.

You either have a clogged filter, base ignition timing is off, or your tune is garbage.

well as far as tune wise idk but i know the filter is new, timing is just basic cuz i dont have adjustable cam gear. Is there a posabilty that the fuel pressure gauge is faulty?

The ignition timing pertains to the distributor, not the mechanical timing of the engine. Shoot it with a timing light.

What's wrong with 60psi anyways?

The higher the pressure you run, the harder the injectors have to work to open - can cause premature failure. Also, as pressure increases flow decreases (but if there was blocked flow to begin with it could possibly "force" more fuel through).

Well I went ahead and replaced the fuel filter anyways and it worked a little bit, still the car wont run @ 40psi, the best it will run is @ 50psi idle and about 57psi accel. Its better than 60-70psi maybe now its tunning? Thanks for the help guys. My next goal is learning how to tune my own Crome chip.

Gotcha. Though that's not how I thought it worked. I figured increased pressure = increased flow and better atomization of the fuel. However, I'm using EVO VIII 560s and I now see that they run about 38.5-43.5psi stock. I suppose I should make an adjustment to get some better flow?

Here is a chart I found (yes, I know it's for a 400lph but it depicted what I wanted to show) that shows the correlation between Pressure and Flow...

Obviously there is an optimal point of pressure for all injectors. The key is never allowing the fuel flow become lower than your injectors can flow. I didn't explain in detail before and to keep it light I won't here - but when you increase fuel pressure you force the injectors to "flow more". They will also work harder to do this. Fuel pressure has a different affect on the injectors than it does the fuel pump. Please don't get these confused.

Man, I havn't heard of this before.
I "almost" had a similar problem. I have a '89 EF Sedan, D15B2, MPFI (so Im runnin' fuel injectors also), Wired Si, etc; Bought it last week.

But anyways, the problem I had last week was, I was driving and all of a sudden my car cut off before I switched to 2nd gear, I called the guy who sold me the EF and he came down to look at it, cause honestly I had no clue. He eventually came, checked under the hood, looked at the fuel pressure gauge and it shown "0", so the car wouldn't cut on either. When I turn the ignition key (where everything is on but the car), the fuel pressure gauge is supposed to show 40, but instead it shown 0. Turns out, it was a wire that had been disconnected from my fuel filter. All I can say is check all your wiring, because that was my problem.

^^^ That story has no relation to the OP's problem. Just so you know all the '88-91 Civic/CRX's were fuel injected (yes, that means they had fuel injectors - we aren't talking diesels or something) be it Multi-Port Fuel Injection (multi - meaning more than one but in Honda engines case more than two injectors) or Dual Point Fuel Injection (which had 2 fuel injectors).

A fuel filter with a wire going to it.

From what he said, somethin' about a wire disconnected from "somethin' ''. I wasn't listening all too well cause I was worried if the car would get back on the road that night or not.
