i-car is expensive. i think the classes are around 150 give / take. each class is a point.
when i was a student at scc the auto body program students got a discount but i don't know how much. i have five point so far but i would rather take ase. i-car instructors are hit and miss, some suck.

to tell you the truth... if you're trying to get in a body shop.. they could care less about your certifications... they wanna see experience first. certifications are just fancy papers to show insurance companies you're legit
body shop i'm trying to apply want I-Car or ASE certified and Journeyman (wat does it mean? my buddy say it some kind of level?)... just wanna know how to get either one... which school do i need to go to? community college?
I-CAR, I just finnshed the auto body at ATHENS TECH,They did have the I-CAR tranning until the only teacher that could give the test was fired!!
I was thinking of how I could start to take some of those classes, But damm they are not cheap!!

most shops don't take apprentices, do you know if you want to start on the body side or paint side?

your chances of being a bodyman at any shop are near impossible... you're going to have to start out as an apprentice first. unless you get lucky at a super small mom n pops shop...
one thing school doesnt tell you is, you will still have to start at the bottom regardless of your education.

a journey tech is not something you can put a time table on. a true journeyman has trusted knowledge on all aspects of bodywork light to heavy, paint work, estimating and mechanical. in short a lot of experience and able to handle all area's in a bodyshop without being babysat.

i dont consider myself a pro... like i say on my other forum i run into a problem recently on my body work, but i believe it was the CHEAP primer... anyways if i really take my time i should be able to. i also paint n do bodywork on my own car n my buddy 2 car (rear ended). the only thing i need more work on is the buffing... anyways there still alot to learn from...

i graduated from a community collage 7 years ago. got my a.a.s. degree in collision and refinishing. when i was done i started at a shop as a detailer, paint prep and buffing. i worked my way into collision work. after a year my boss hired another person for the for prep and moved me up to a bodyman. i continued to push through the next five years. three of the years working at another shop.
