88 with 90 flywheel? help please!!
ok so i started to feel my clutch slipping a bit the other day so i figure i had better start shopping around as i have never had to replace one before. from what i have read alot of people have had good luck out of both exedy and action clutch, so i am most likely going with one of those, but they looking at actions site it says that i need the 90+ flywheel.
so my question is can i use a flywheel from a 90+ on my 88? if not is there one that will work with the 90+ clutch kit, be it oem or an aftermarket light-ish weight one?
thanks in advance

the 90-91 flywheel will bolt onto the 88 engine, however, your problem is that the 88 transmission is not compatible with the 90-91 clutch disc - the 88 transmission has a 21 spline input shaft, which goes into the clutch disc - all 89-91 transmissions have a 20 spline input shaft - the 88-89 clutches are 200mm diameter with matching flywheel - the 90-91 clutches are 212mm diameter with matching flywheel - the 88-89 clutch assembly will not bolt to the 90-91 flywheel, nor will the 90-91 clutch assembly bolt to the 88-89 flywheel
what you need is the upgrade to the 90-91 flywheel and 212mm diameter clutch assembly with clutch disc having 21 splines - you can get the upgrade from ACT clutch which is pretty expensive or you can get an Exedy upgrade for the 88 which has the 212mm clutch assembly and matching flywheel with clutch disc having 21 splines - go here:

I think that was more confusing that it was worth... Here is a link to your guide "jlicrx" that "Tyson" did...

PS - I guess I failed to mention the pressure plate won't bolt to it - but you can use the clutch disc as mentioned above.
