Default smog legal "homemade" turbo setup?

Ok if i were to be piecing together a turbo setup then i would be using parts coming from USDM vehicles which have to adhear to smog standards. So being that that all the parts would be smog legal in their orginal setup then i wouldn't be violating any smog laws if i use them in my car right?

That seems like thats how it should work and being that i life in Cali where laws are strict i want to make sure before i go ahead with this. I wouldn't think that a smog technician would even recognize or care about a turbo setup but i was just curious.

Wrong, as soon as you modify it it is no longer smog legal. The only way greddy gets away with it is because it has a CARB sticker, your home brewed kit wont have this
