Default G23 Discussion Thread

Being that there is already and H2B discussion thread, i'd thought it would be nice to get a G23 thread going. being that this is a newer yet very fast uprising hybrid build set up coming up. I myself have just started laying out the plans for a motor my little brother wants and i will be assembling and tuning. anyone out there with some experience with these set-ups fell free to chime in and shine some light. my little brothers build will be f23 stock sleeves with bisi custom piston rod combo and an H22 head. so far i scored an H22 head in imaculate condition for $80 and a complete F23 longblock, which we are pretty much just going to use crank and block for $150. head will be going to RLZ for a nice port job, and compression we're looking at about 13:1 car will be tuned on E85 and going with the new hondata cpr backed up with an s300. going into a 95 DX coupe. only cut doors and FAL rear 3 windows for now. we will maybe cut it up and reduce more weight later on.

My setup currently
F22a1 block F20b head.
Items used:
h22 timing belt.
f20b timing pulley.
f20b water pump pulley gear.
f22 water pipe using f22 thermostat no welding but fabrications.
f22 head gasket.
The block is shot but will be rebuilding soon.
it was fast at first but since the block had 280,xxx miles it lost compression.

New setup:
F20b high comp pistons 12.24 in f22 block with f22 rods
SC14 Toyota supercharger custom fabrication done from a family friend
FMI with blow off valve
that's it will post pics

so looks like the bisi rods and pistons combo for the F23 were because of a big demand and were done for limited and now price is back up. $1200 for pistons and rods is not in our budget right now. being that i have a turbo car in the works. so my little brother has decided to settle for k20 pistons. type-s or type-r pistons will do for now. getting a nice port job on the head. messing with the intake manifold a bit porting it and gutting it and adding a spacer. and getting probably skunk 2 pro 2 cams. hopefully we can pull out around 230-240 from the car. with the car cut possibly get it to 1900lbs with driver in it should be well into the 11's with some seat time. lets see how this goes...

Do you guys think the F22/F23 sleeves are good for an NA motor to a point, or can they handle anything? Do alot of the NA B and K guys just sleeve their blocks so they can bore it out some more or is it mainly for strength? I've seen some 300whp+ boosted F22/F23 wouldn't NA put less stress on it?

Can you have a 260-300whp NA G23 without worrying about cracking a sleeve (if you don't bore it more than 1mm over)? I'm going to build an NA motor, and option A is a sleeved H22 block or option B a G23 with stock sleeves. I think it was PirateMcFred build and he had 250-260whp with a stock sleeve G23, so seems okay but that is just one build.

you answered your own question... if PirateMcFred can do it then you can do it .... there are alot of builds out there that this is been done with turbo. so an na g23 that makes 260- 300 whp should be alright ....build it and let us know....f23/22 are cheap thats my reasoning....

These builds will last long just get a good tune you will be good. My ecu is chipped and when i did my g22 swap i had to use my f20b chip because my h22 chip would not work on take off it bogged out bad so i switched to the f20b chip. It runs just like the f20b motor i had on my eg 4dr but it has more torque than the f20b. Runs rich but its fast as hell.

Currently this is my build using the f20b head= 85mm bore like the f22a1 that i have. I'm making a thread on my build so if interested take a look. Details and pics on it too. It's a little messy but will look a lot better once rebuild is done. Was thinking of doing my own wire tuck to it.
