Ls valves in a gsr head
I was driving and my harmonic balancer fell off along with the key for the bottom timing belt pully so my bottom end kept spinning while my head wasnt.. I took the head off and all my valves are bent..i was wondering cuz I have ls valves laying around in my garge and was seeing if they would fit in my gsr head...thnx in advance h-t
Look up the part numbers and see if they match. They sell aftermarket valves that are supposed to work for ls/gsr/b16 so i would assume they are the same but im not 100%. I would look into it.
Ok update I got some gsr valves put them in put the head back on..now my car is knocking im pretty sure its not my block cuz wen I took the head off my pistons look fine no dents or anything...the only way u can tell the valves hit the piston is cuz its a little shiny where the valve hit it but no gouge or dent just a tiny scratch..what can it be..do my valves need adjusting.its a real rough knck but doesnt quit sound like rod knock but it is loud and kind of scary haha kinda sound like my alternator is loose and vibrating like crazy but thats not in....any input is good need to figure this out quick this is my only car and I need to go to work tomorroe

Sounds you might have your valve lash is adjusted to tight or way to loose. Im assuming the valves seated good since you used them. However if the valves are hitting im gonna assume that they are bent now also. You might have installed a valve incorrectly?
The car runs fine just has that knock valves arent bent.....im leaning towards the head cuz I can grab my dizzy and I can feel it knocking from there...sounds like something is loose but I double checked everything ima do the valve adjustment tomorrow and see if that helps I hope so
That knock that you describe is not valve lash related. Loose valves will have a ticking sound, not knocking. What you seem to be describing is either a rocker that's messed up or something with the bottom end. Knocking is almost never related to Problems within the head, but usually dictate something wrong with the bottom end, usually a spun bearing or rod bolts.
Thrust bearing and washers were probably impacted from the shift of the crank when the key and pulley came out. This, most likely, is causing the knock. The reason why the pulley backed up to begin with was probably because of worn thrust washers.

I would have to say it's a spun bearing. However you won't really know until you get in there to look.
Let us know what you find out.
I'm gonna agree with something in the bottom end. But first I have to ask if it goes with rpm's? Like it's speeds up as you rev it? Because then it definately something inside the engine, and almost always going to be a rod knock.
Another question (not related to the knock), when you bought the new valves, did you have them and the seats lapped or machined? Or did you just throw them in?

Update took the oul pan of and my oil pick up had big chunks of peices from my oil pump shattering...replaced oil pump and wen rotating crank by hand with oil pan ofd I still hear a knoxking look over and my flywheel is about to fall off lol..took tranny off tightend everything up started it uo and ecerything is cool now thnks for all the input h-t
i would have gone further and looked at the bearings and see how they were doing. oil pump shattering, crank pulley falling off, and flywheel about to fall off just sounds like the bearings took a beating.
Agreed, those bearings just went through a lot of premature wear and tear because of that.
